Pulled out the standard XR6 passenger seat and dummy fitted the BA XR seat to see how much i needed to modify the au and ba rails to get them in some pics of what both seats in the car look like. Hoping to get out the grinder tomorrow and start getting the rails ready to weld.

Image
Image

Both seats are now fitted and it looks mint!!! took a little bit of work but well worth it. Next mod i think ill be upgrading the barakes to twin pots 322mm suckers in about 3 weeks.

Image

I picked up the first of the major modifications to the AU a T56 6 speed gearbox Im still traking down a number of other parts i need for the conversion from T5 to T56 but a pick of the T56 gearbox. If all goes well and i can collect all the gear i need i may have a stab at the conversion next week.

Image

and a comparison shot of a T5 beside a the T56.

Image

got a few parts on the way still need to figure out how to get the speedo working,

im waiting on Clutch flywheel and an upgraded slave cylinder also waiting for ford to get in the clutch pedal assembly in its on back order.

Ive picked up the Master cylinder and reservoir today.

Image

im hoping to get the car in the shed and off the ground tonight or tomorrow pull the gearbox clutch and flywheel off aswell as get the pedal box out ready to get some modifications to fit the Ba Pedal and master cylinder on.

I thought id show off my collection of gearboxes, nah seriously here is a comparison of e series T5, AU T5 and BF T56.

Image
Image

Some dimensions that i got

From Bellhousing to the shifter stalk in Nuetral
T56 780mm
AU T5 770mm
E- series 710mm

From bellhousing to rear of extension housing.
T56 830mm
AU T5 830mm
E- series 770mm

So i wont need to get a custom tailshaft just need to change the yokes over i will get it ballanced. also picking up some new brakes today some territory twin pot calipers 322mm slotted rotors and lines and pads.

Clutch and flywheel are off, and i picked up my new brakes yesterday. I still have to pull the pedal box out so ill do that tomorrow and then need to hunt round for some bigger sockets to pull the hubs off my AUII spindles ive got and put on the new hubs so i can fit these puppies below. THe red caliper is off and AUII 298mm setup but the territory caliper is still bigger than it.

Image

Image

Have got my hands on the clutch kit and flywheel.

Which now means i can put the box in. Specs on the clutch kit and flywheel,

CLUTCH KIT
Dampened Cushioned Button Heavy Duty Clutch Kit - Xtreme

Dampened centre, cushioned segment between lining, Multiple sintered button lining bonded to steel backing
Sintered lining offers greater torque capacity, much higher coefficient of friction and higher heat stability and dissipation.
Offers great driveability with the advantages of using a sintered lining, relatively smooth and positive engagement, suited for street and sprint use.

1100kg Clamp Load (Approximately 25% over standard.)

FLYWHEEL
Lightweight Aluminium Flywheel - Xtreme

Increased acceleration due to decreased rotating mass over flywheel.
Many times stronger than the OEM flywheel and able to handle plenty of abuse.
Increased engine braking, great for circuit racing, autocross, rally......
Aluminium flywheels have a replaceable friction steel insert.

Weight approximately 6.1kg

The Flywheel is so much lighter the clutch housing.

Just waiting on the BA manual pedal assembly

I picked up the clutch pedal so i can start modifying the pedal box as soon as i get it out.
Image

Also made a start on the new brakes got one side almost ready to bolt up completley just need to drill and tap 2 holes for the swaybar mount and its done. a before and after shot below.

Before
Image

After
Image

Well has been a big day today, finished of mounting everything for the brakes just need to tighten everything now and then hookup and bleed the new calipers.

The T56 is in took about 30 minutes it is a tight fit bit it fits and is in i need to modifyy the gearbox leaver hole inly by about 5mm to 10mm and look out how to go about a crossmember for the box.

T56 bolted up "Poor qaulity pic mybad!!"
Image

Shifter
Image

well today I started working on the gearbox crossmember using the standard AU crossmember and a modified gearbox mount, I just need to pick up some bolts and bolt it up and then drill and tap some holes for the cross member to bolt to as they dont line up with the originals. Also made a bracket to mount the Clutch reservoir thats been painted and is just drying before i attach it. Going to work on the pedal box this afternoon.

Some pics of the tailshafts and yokes

Image
Image

Well today just tied up most of the little stuff took a little chunk out of the trans tunnell. Drilled and tapped the holes for the trans crossmember and bolted it up and put the tailshaft in and done up all the bolts, remove the clutch cable ran the line from the reservoir to the master cylinder and put the pedal box in after Schmee helped modify it yesterday still needs a bit of work as the pedal sits a bit higher than the other. Um i think thats it for today.

Tomorrow il be working out the speedo and reverse lockout, filling the box with oil. and Bleeding the clutch and brake lines and then i can take her for a spin.

Reservoir
Image

Pic from underneth all bolted in.
Image

Well ive fixed the mount the box is sitting better now and the output shaft is the same level as the T5 was some weird noises have been fixed with doing this. I need to fill the hole in the end of the yoke its an open ender and the box needs a sealed one so i might do a temp fix for now so its not droping fluid and get the shaft balanced and fix the yoke later on. Its going in for an alignment and full brake flush tomorrow after putting all the au 2 gear on the front end along with BF brakes. While it is in getting this done im going to look at modifying the speed pickup and get that sorted out. Also might finish the pedalbox off tomorrow if Schmee is about.

Ive been out for a few trips in it today and the ratio seams to be awsome at the least pulls hard in first and second from what the bumometer says so im quitepleased at this point with the whole conversion.

Was on my to a Friends place for a relaxin evening when a truck decided it wanted to run a red light and turn right through an intection and put some racing stripes down the side of the AU. Not sure whats going to happen to the AU as it looks like the C pillar has been bent. Thanks to John and Kristy for helping patch up the back window for the trip home :)

Image
Image
Image

Well i called into so how the repairs and respray is going on the au, all the repairs have been done just sorting out the bonnet and front lip spoiler for it atm then its goin getting the body kit test fitted and then in the booth she goes. Checked out the color and it is f&*kin sweet the blue pearl pops in the right light and angle and in normal light and angle it looks like normal red.

Now im pretty sure this is my car :D

I should be getting it back very soon.

that is a great effort there mate....... I'm not a fan of hte AU1 cars, but your's is definately one that would be in the very nice category. I've always liked the idea of the T56 in the older cars...... Just out of interest what sort of revs does she sit on in top gear?

How long after the conversion did the crash happen.....?

Well done mate. Should be nice to have a supercharger with a T56 gearbox. Unfortunate about that incident with the truck but by the looks of it, it will be back better then before. I was looking at doing a T56 conversion to my AU XR8 because the T5 is really starting to annoy me as its not liking the power that is being put through it. If you dont mind me asking how much did the conversion cost you? You can PM me if you like. Good luck mate and i will be keeping an eye on this thread as its definetly a good read.

Thanks Guys,

Nah Nicko decided against SII/III front it wont suite the bonnet at all and looks way tougher like it is now

Yeah mate they are XC vents were not shaped right to suit the front bar.
