Hey People as you can see
I own an AU xr6 Ser II, it is a bugger to start but once running not a drama. it trys to start but is acting like it is starved of fuel or not enough ignition source, I turn the key nothing a clicking noise (assume the relay working how is suppose to) then switch off then on it will try to start or will start then stall out seconds later, i have to feather the thorttle to get it running, also when it fails to start it pops and backfires out the air box... This car isn't on gas and the only mod it has is a peice of stainless 26mm intake to a BA tubeing and EF airbox (well it is an AU box with the EF inner tube) any help would be helpful

Bloody Cars!
On Friday i went to start it at lunch to shoot home, wouldn't start then everything went blank as if flat battery, got the jump pack from work, started and reversed stalled it same drama, got it started once again, drove it and it stallled while driving, chucked her in 2nd and dumped the clutch to roll start it was very sketchy on the way home. got home let it run for 5 minutes and then missus turned it off, same drama woulnd't start or no lights etc etc dead. removed the batttery and then put it back in, no drama lights etc etc but failed to start, clicking and carrying on, no lights or info on odometer etc, played with the terminals and started it up, drove it and it was very doggy the revs sat between 1000 and 0 could it be the idle speed controller or the regulator that controls the butterflys? i got no idea and it is giving me the s**t. i am thinking of getting a diagnostic done in the coming days.

Check fuel pressure.Check for spark and also check for injector pulse.If these are all present i would look at the ecu.

the car runs when it gets off it's a** and starts, there is a tiny miss / dead spot. how would one check for fuel pressure and injector pulse?

The only real way to test for fuel pressure is use a fuel pressure/flow gauge which is installed in the supply side of the fuel line.
You can check for injection pulse with a 12volt or LED test light just remove one of the injector plugs and bridge the plug from terminal to terminal with the test light and then observe the test light whilst someone is cranking the engine over. Have you checked for spark??If so when it is running have you checked which cylinder is missing??? Easiest way is to get it running then pull each lead off at the plug and hold it back a little to see if this missfire is at that cylinder.Bit hard to explain but easy to show.But very effective way of determining which cylinder is causing the missfire. Also if you are having problems with it trying to start maybe disconnect the vaccum hose off the fuel reg,this will increase the fuel pressure only slightly.Or if you are keen you can try to crimp the return line whilst cranking and once started let it go.This will make sure there is no leak back into the fuel tank if the reg is faulty and also gets the fuel pump to work harder this might sort out what is wrong with it,that is if the pump is stuffed. See how you go.

I removed the what i beleive is the idles postition sensor. sprayed it with silicone spray and when you try and start the car there is no click click situation but it does have trouble starting cranks and cranks no go. then it starts but when you drive and go down gears it goes down to 0 and almost stalls the car then pops up to 1000 again. and also there is f**k all accelration )well seems like it is wot all the time.

Well i replaced the Throttle Postition Sensor / Switch etc ec and no change... this is s**t me up the wall.

Changed the Idle Control Switch / Sensor. and the it made it worse, so i changed it back to my org one. i have pulled the leads off the plugs one by one to see if any were dodgey etc but i am yet to pull them off while the car is running. oh well will just have to get it diagnosed

this may sound stupid but i had exsact symptoms and the car wouldnt start you had to jump it and when ur driving it back fire and loose power it turned out to be my alternator wasn't charging enough and coil couldn't gennerate up a strong sparks. easy way to tell if it is or not is put you car on charge over night and start the car up and it will be happy and rev and all then dissconnect the negative battery termonal and griver her a few revs and a small drive around the block and see if she miss behaves. i replaced my alternator other day and not a problem since. hope you solve ya problem mate

STUPID ME!!!!! i didn't see you said it back fires threw your air box
your exhaust must be blocked if your timming correct check your cat and muffler. IT HAS to be that one has or is starting to collaps if it smell like rotten eggs it most likerly cat has gone
