with the E series tickford motors the easiest way to tell is to remove the front cover on the motor and if you look at the facia of the head there should be a tickford symbol. ( see picture below )

the front cover comes off just buy removing the power steering cap and one bolt on the right and then you should be able to see it.

as you can see mine is NOT a tickford.

i have put a green arrow to show you were to bolt is for the facia

let me know how you go.

Thanks

have a look at this link

ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/how-to-identify-tickford-head-t10821.html

Taken from the above link

should look something like this :P
EB/ED are plain T later models have :

EF - 94 DT
EL - 95 DT
AU - WR2T
as well as the big T

Also, is it a Series I EF Fairmont Ghia? If so then it isn't a Tickford motor. I'm sure only EF series 2 Fairmont Ghia came out with Tickford gear and obviously EL models.

tickford never made rocket engine for the e series, but anyway.

as above to determine, although a lot of ef ghia's didn't have the ticky motor.

the vin does tell, if you have a bit of a dig, it tells you how to work it out think it's an x some where along the vin, but can't be bothered searching tonight.

Yeah, under "Engine" on the VIN plates, 'X' = 4.0L HP

EF/EL Fairmont Ghia's with the Tickford upgrade has a gold coloured " 4.0 " sticker instead of silver on the front guards where the OHC sticker is......as well as having the " X " stamped on the Ford plate under the bonnet for Engine......instead of " H " for a standard engine.

but if you had knowledge about engines you'd know it's a rocker cover
