what sort of power can you get for any sort of cash.
im talking from the bloke with $1000 limit to the bloke with no limit. keeping the car na and on gas what sort of cash and where can it be spent? im starting with a 170000km el xr6 motor so whats the best way to go. im just ideas and a ruff idea on prices. im hoping to have 160 170+ rwkw but depends on cast and how it will be to drive.

i think you might get the 160rwkw n/a on petrol with about 2-2.5g spent..
1 g might get you around the 140rwkw mark.. then again it being on lpg is a hard call without going lpg injection..?... as said in a few threads lately.. power cost money... the more power you want, the more it will cost!!! if you havnt noticed there are a few similar threads floating around. off-topic-f6/theoretical-question-most-powerful-motor-on-a-budget-t87492.html ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/how-does-one-get-220rwkw-without-turboing-or-supercharging-t87577.html |

PROVIDED the engine is in good condition. with no limit ( and buy that i mean you must have at least 50k to waste on an engine) you end up with with more power then any one has ever built before. |

get a manual conversion, ok so no more power but it wakes the car up and makes it a hell of a lot more fun to drive. down the track do some difff gears or some head work. manual conversion is what I would do, providing its an auto ATM,
If its already a manual, then i would do diff gears, a set of 3.7's would be my personal choice.

Hmmm.
It depends on what you define as engine mods. If you include intake and exhaust in that definition then the dollars do add up quickly. On my Wagon I have done the following mods using a Std Complete EL Engine. Pacemaker Extractors and Highflow Cat - Second Hand - $240 Redback 2.5" Exhaust - $330 EF Airbox lid intake Trumpet and outlet $20 3" 300mm Alloy Pipe $35 AU intake pipe to throttle body -$15 at wreckers EL Ghia Tickford ECU - Swapped for parts Tickford Fuel Pressure Reg - $10 off forums Wade 1673 Cam - Second Hand - $100 Thats $750. I would have between 130 and 140rwks, and if you have any of those parts already like I did, then it is even cheaper again. I do have a Tickford head to be recoed and decked. This will be shaved a fair bit to take advantage of the LPG, but will still need to run on 98ron petrol. The will be between $200 and $400 dollars there depending on needs to be done. For a street engine in a daily driver, I draw the line at touching the bottom end when working on a budget, especially when an AU engine can be had for so little $$$$. You can easily blow $1000 having head work done, if you need new valve springs and port and polish etc, and while I would not do it as I don't see the value for money there, if you do go right ahead. For a $3000 dollar budget I would be investing in a Barra Conversion, but that is a personal preference. Cheers BenJ

problem with the barra engine ben is that you will need engineering for the conversion, even though it's a 4.0L?
A $1000 would get you a good exhaust system and maybe headers! i would do exhaust, headers, cam and maybe head work and you should be on 140-150rwkw with alittle timing. Fast XR had exhaust, header's , CMS 3 cam, slight head work and bigger valves and stronger springs with 14dg timing made 154rwkw on cms dyno and ran 14.1 quater mile. on standered 3.45 diff's..

It is not that much any more. Gas Injection Kit - Ebay However, I have been advised this kit will support up around the 160rwkw mark. When we meet up this weekend, we can have a chat then about options. Cheers BenJ
