I really need help with this its the only thing stopping me from having this friggin thing done.
I have the following colours in my loom: Solid Green Green with purple stripe Solid Yellow Yellow with Green stripe Orange with White stripe Solid Pink Pink with Orange stripe Solid Blue In the guide it says you need: Light Brown with Red stripe (which isnt there) Solid Yellow (which i do have) Solid Violet (Im assuming Violet means pink) and Purple with Green Stripe (I was planning on using the Green with Purple stripe.) Im stuck and i dont want to get all this s**t back in there only to find out i have to pull my whole loom out again It was enough of a mission the first time around lol. Any help will be rewarded with a completely optional reach around. Cheers! Attachment: Untitled.jpg

hi guys ive just completed a manual conversion on my ed xr6 but the thing wont start, ive still got the auto ecu in but ive changed the wiring loom for the gear box. the only thing i could think of is that the neutral switch on the gearbox only has one conection as the other broke could this be my problem???

Could be, the ECU will think the transmission is in drive and won't allow it to start. I suggest you get the broken wire connected and see how it goes. IIRC...EDs had smartlock so it might need to be repgorammed/relearned.

Just wondering if the wiring in the manual would be the same for a 92 EB?

I have an el fairmont gia and my ex before he left me with the car converted it to manual....but poorly. I have had nothing but trouble with it, and no matter what wrecker, mechanic or auto electrician I call or talk to none of them know anything about thwat they are saying and I get 5 different responses of what I need to do. So I will tell you what is happening and hopefully one of you can help me!!
My car is dual fuel, since the conversion, if I run it on gas, when I change gear there is a slight increase in revs between gear changes, but if I run it on petrol it revs to the points whilst idoling I need to keep my foot half off the clutch to keep the revs down, it almost red lines. I was told I need a chip (but I dont know what it is called) that I can purchase on ebay for $120 roughly, I have been told there is no such thing and I need a new epu, I have also been told I need to have the whole computer replaced or reprogramed. I have less than 5 weeks to get it fixed before I move to adelaide, so please if anyone can help me out that would be great! |

That sounds like it hasnt had the resistor put in to trick the ECU to think it's in neutral.
When the ECU thinks the auto is in in drive, when you slow down (at around 20-30km/h) it will open the ISC a bit to stop the car from stalling. In a manual you dont need this, so you just need to trick it to think the car is in neutral. The other solution is to get a manual ECU, or a J3 chip from tiperformance with a manual tune on it. |

I just seen the word j3 chip in a previous post by someone and it triggered I had heard of it before, so now I know that was what I had been lookin for just I never knew the name of it and every search I had done before never came up with it.
Thanks heaps. Although I looked up how to instal the j3 chip and I'm pretty sure I will be getting someone else to do it for me lol. While I'm at it, I'm pretty sure there is something else I need to have put in.....A switch or something similar beause since the car was converted the fan wont turn off whilst the car is running and I am pretty sure my ex use to borrow a friends switch or chip or something like that so the fan runs when needed and not consistently, would you know what that is? |

Talk to this guy (Jason) he has the chip you put into your ECU to convince it it is a manual...
http://www.fordmods.com/ecu-fuel-system-eec-f21/tuning-your-falcon-with-a-t-i-performance-j3-chip-t68577.html Or you can go direct: http://www.tiperformance.com.au/index.php Don't know why your car redlines on Petrol but not gas.. but the TI j3 chip with a manual tune will fix the slight rev issue. The cheap method to do it is to use resistors to trick the ECU into thinking it's always an automatic in neutral and not overheated and then block your ICS.. but unless you are a bit tech oriented (or have a brother/father/friend/etc who is) it's a little fiddly. If you do decide to do that, it's detailed about a dozen different places on this site and several of us have done it.. (me included as of 3 months ago) cheers Frank |

Thanks!! Yeah I know how to fix alot of things on this heap of crap car myself, but fiddly is not my thing. So I will definately need to find someone else to do it for me. I rekon my ex had the resisters but said he didnt know how to put them in, but I have no hope of getting them off him. How much cheaper are the resisters compared to the j3 chip?
