Yes they are different......different ratio's.
AU.....VCT XR6.................HP XR6
1st.....3.05:1....................3.35:1
2nd....1.99:1....................1.93:1
3rd.....1.29:1....................1.29:1
4th......1.00:1...................1.00:1
5th......0.72:1...................0.73:1
REV......3.15:1...................3.15:1

There you go, the ratio differences.

AU box is longer than an Eseries box, but apart from that is similiar, except of course for the bell housing differences.

The shifter sits further back, and would require you to cut the floor a bit. The bottom bolts of the bell housing are different to the Eseries, but could be redrilled. I think you can use your bell housing on the AU T5. The four bolts should be in the same location.

Would not be too hard to check.

The XF/EA T5 has a 1st gear ratio of 3.50:1.......good take off, and for towing ( getting off the mark with a heavy load )....and diff gears of 3.23/3.27.

My ED isn't an 8, so it does for what I want. The original single rail for an XD V8 had a 1st gear ratio of 2.46:1.

I would use either a later e series or AU t5 over the ea one (better synchros and bearings under gears and on countershaft), but in stating that if it is just for daily driving and you already have the EA box then go with that one.

As far as ratio's go I would be inclined to put the AU t5 behind it as it also has a taller 5th, but if you don't do many highway k's in it then EA ratios would be fun. What is the car going to be used for and how powerful?

Ok so it may kinda be relevant but as a definite answer, would a E-Series T5 with E-Series Bell-housing bolt up to an AU engine in a EL?

Cheers

Yes.

The only thing is that the bottom four bell housing bolts will not match up.

Most have left them out with out any issues, even in high powered applications.

Cheers

yes..
but the 4 lower bolts on the e series bellhousing dont line up with the au sump..
if you can get an au t5 bellhousing this would be the best thing..
but if you cant well an e series will do the job..
i have been running the e series bellhousing for the last 3 years behind au engines with no problems..
but i now finally have an au t5 bellhousing.. :D

Pretty sure T5 for 6 and T5 for 8 have different input shafts as well.

Thats cool if its further back, might be a nicer location. You do have to reach a bit.

My 351/T5 bell housing is in the XF with an EL T5 bolted to it. But I could split the AU T5 and bell housing and see if it goes against the EA T5 I have. That would solve that one.

What about the cross member locations?

Ash

Have a look at my build thread Ash, shows you how far back it is. The AU boxes don't have the reverse switch on the top fork cover either. Cross member is the same.
