Hey all

this is my first topic/post on these forums so first of all id like to sya gday haha

ive bought my first ute today actually and while i wait for roadworthy etc, im looking at quick sussy options so i can slam it and chuck some rims on as soon as i can. its a 99 au xls 5.0l manual

so, as the title suggests id like to know my options for lowering the rear of an au.........

ive only dealt with coil springs in my previous cars so my knowledge of leaf spring options is very limited

the front of an au is fairly straight forward obviously with just coil spring and shock set up

so any suggestions would be absolutely awesome guys

thanks heaps all
Dan

lowering blocks you can pick up cheaply
ive heard of flipping the springs but i dunno about that one,

best bet would be to shoot a pm to benj as he has lowered his wagon with leaf springs and it looks very shmick

ahhh, this gives me a little bit to think about

im a plumber so the loads i carry are generally not too heavy, the most weighty thing ive ever seen my boss cart around is a couple of burst hot water units on separate occasions and the old tin from roofs we've renewed

im very much about the look of a car over functionality haha, which i know is a stupid way to look at it

What wheels are on it?

With stock 16" alloys or steelies you can only use a max 1" block. The shock mount section of the plate sits inside the wheel a bit.

If you've got some larger alloys on it then it might pay to measure it up and see how much space there is, although it you need to use a 16" spare wheel, it won't fit on anymore..

But if you're going to use it for work and stuff, I would be getting your existing leaf springs reset. It costs about $250 or so, but you can have reset to basically any height you like, also you won't have to worry about wheel sizes. It'll cost extra but you can also have some leaves added, that way your ute can handle a decent amount of weight properly and be nice and low.

ahhh, im starting to get a bit of an understanding now

i wont go with the lowering block technique because to me that seems like the leaf spring equivalent of cutting coil springs, the cheapo option

im thinking either replacing them with king springs or whatever, or by getting them reset

getting them reset seems like the best option at this stage, and if thats around the 250 buck mark then king springs will cost around the same, and as u can keep the load rating with reset springs it far outweighs the king spring option

where can u get them reset? any sussy joint? pedders and so on?

Ive got king spring superlow leafs and coils in mine.

I occasionally carry 2 dirtbikes and gear and its alright but the road to the bike unloading zone where I go is fairly good.

Here are a few pics, 1 with a bike in the back which is about 100kgs.

I was quoted $270, but things are typically a bit more expensive in Tasmania.

Pedders won't do it, you'll need to find a springs works. There should be some in the phone book, or have a look here:

Or call a decent local store and ask who does it, they would know.

Nothing Jewmod about that. That is oldschool idea for resetting leaf springs.

Done carefully and evenly there would be no issue. You only do them a little at a time.

So maybe if i bend it 1 inch, smooth it out, then bend another inch, then smooth.
