Hey guys,

finally after all these years (9) the old 98 AU bit the dust when the auto failed on a recent trip to QLD and back, it simply wasn't worth repairing, so I traded it in for a 2008 FG XT. I got the FG for $22,000.00 with only 10,800 on the clock and it feels and drives like a brand new car, I couldn't be happier... well that's not true, I actually could.

My plans in the near future are to lower it and stick on a nice set of 19" mags, something classy.

I have a couple of questions that I figured someone on these forums would know:

1. It doesn't have ipod and bluetooth only the base model entertainment system, is it possible to have these fitted or will that mean upgrading the entire system?

2. Is it possible to fit driving lights from the G6 to the base model FG, the holes in the front bar look like the right size but the vents seems to be a different shape?

3. Who does good after market towbars for Falcons; would a genuine tow pack be money better spent?

That's all I need to know for now.

Cheers.

Add $2900 and you would of had a silver 08 G6 for $24,900.00 with premium sound and tow kit.

congrats on the purchase mate.

1. Not sure... you might have source a whole new system in the centre. I know in mine its all intergrated, and the microphone for the bluetooth is in the rear view mirror. Ipod cable comes into the centre console. If i recall, the screen in the XT isnt colour? So im not sure you will get all the song names and what not display (If you can do the ipod cable)

Check out asl (http://www.asllogistics.com/) They do full upgrades and the likes. And if you dont want to do a full upgrade, they have different add-ons and stuff.

2. I would say the G6 lights would be a straight swap in.

3. Cant help with the tow bar!

Not a great help, but its a start!

Well a call to a local Ford dealer got me a couple of answers.

I can get bluetooth and ipod fitted for $519 and $443 respectively, seems pretty expensive but if I can't find a cheaper solution I'll probably just bite the bullet.

The tow pack isn't too bad, the 1600 kg kit fitted is $562, I hope that's all I need because the heavy duty kit is $1664 fitted, I don't tow a caravan so I think I'll go for the lighter option.

Another question, does the FG take the same wheels as the BA/BF? I assume so?

And this is how I'd like it to look soon (plates are on order).

in reply to your queries mate
1. ipod and blue tooth can be fitted. bluetooth is a module that gets installed and then ford turn that function on in your computer. older bluetooth units are popping up for sale now as they had issues with connecting the new iphone, but the new units have fixed that. the ipod kit is possible to buy and install yourself, they pop up on ebay from time to time for about $200. although ford will need to flash your computer to recognise its there. if you have a 3.5mm input jack next to your power source/lighter socket, you can plug an ipod into that and play it via aux on the stereo. difference is that all control is run from the ipod, and it wont charge it. you can even plug your phone in, ive been running music through it from my blackberry and using the in car charger at the same time. with the ipod cable, all control is via your stereo/steering wheel buttons, and you will get song info displayed on the screen.

2. driving/fog lights are the same across all fg falcons, just the surrounds vary. if you dont have them you may also need the wiper stalk with the controller on it, wether the wiring will be there im unsure.

3. not sure about the towbar, im trying to source an au sedan one to check if its the same

4. au ba bf fg all run the same rims.

If I had time before I traded the old AU I would've taken the towbar off it but this all happened so quickly I didn't get a chance.

Got some prices on wheel and tyre packages as well as dropping in either low or super low king springs, I can either wait until I've run the current tyres into the ground before upgrading the wheels or I can look at selling the current wheels and tyres soonish and put the cash I get from them back into the new setup.

What should I be looking at getting for the current wheels and tyres?

The tyres have done only 11170 km now, but it will be a month or so before I'll have reserve cash for the new set so say 15000 km max, the wheels are in factory conditions, not a mark on them (not even a bug) I have no idea what sort of price they should fetch.

Tyres: {DESCRIPTION}
Wheels: 16" Factory Rims (EDIT: Alloys)

Cheers.

I doubt you'll get much for them... $500 TOPS. But you might be able to trade them at your wheel and tyre provider... perhaps $300ish.

I made my first visible mod today, it's only very minor but I'm already happy with it, I removed the Falcon and XT badges from the boot.

Hopefully next week I'll have the new king springs in, I'm still tossing up whether to go low or super low, at this stage I'm thinking super low but I have to make sure that leaves enough clearance to tow my boat.

WTF? I have a small but annoying issue with my gear stick... is this s**t normal or is something broken?

See the second pic, basically the whole stick just pops out of the console pulling the (p)leather boot up with it. This doesn't look normal to me, what do you guys think?

lol its called tiptronic mate haha nah its a bit hard to see in the pic but it doesnt look like the boot has come out like from the plastic surround, just stretched a bit but i guess you would get that when you move it to tip tronic mode as the gear stick does move over

LOL, yep it moves over as I would expect with a tiptronic box  but that's not the problem I'm pointing at (infact that's not a problem at all) the whole stick pops up and out of the slot, even twists around full 180 degrees, surely that's not a feature???
