Hey Jay,

Yeah mate got it going... Just hoping that all is well this time and we have had success... Fingers crossed for the next week or so... :?

Yeah I like it... Only thing I thought, if you go to a once piece steel one, or even something like the difilippo one then it looks like it makes checking the air filter rather difficult... Where this silicon/fibre thingo would perhaps have enough flex in it to allow easy inspection of the air filter element... Don't know... Just a thought I had about it all one day... Practical side of it vs performance side of it... Just like deciding on a cam I suppose... practical vs performance...

Cheers,
Tim

Good point Tim. Glad to hear it's running, hope it turns out to be running good for you.

You could have a metal one most of the way & fit 1 silicone join to it to make it easier to remove the air box for a filter change/clean.

Cheers

Well so far so good... MLS gasket number 2 and I don't see any oil floating on top of the water...

May flush it once more tomorrow... Run it for another week before adding in the new coolant...

Just curious what sort of Ign timing you guys running the MLS gasket are using? I am running less than 10deg BTDC now and still get some mad pinging when it is hot and I accelerate hard... I am very vigilant on hot days atm... I run 95RON petrol 99% of the time and 98 if I am travelling far... So I am guessing it must be the increase in compression causing this? Just curious what sort of timing the AU spec is (I know it can't be adjusted, but there must be some base timing reading specified?

May even plug in the knock sensor and see how well that works...

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Tim

if your running the el ecu it suppose to be at tdc, you should be able to get away with 2-4 deg btdc....

Oh? Really? So not 10deg BTDC like the ED one then? Here is a change I wasn't aware of... I thought it may have been the increase in compression, not the computer change... Thanks Troy!

The Ellery Book I have says it is 10 BTDC... But I have known it to be wrong on numerous occasions... Can anybody confirm this 0deg ign timing? Someone with a Ford book feel like so copy me the page? :D

Cheers,
Tim

An extra 10 degree's of timing before the ECU starts to play with things with no doubt help cause the engine to ping. If the knock sensor is plugged in, the ecu should pull some timing out & it will stop pinging....

It wouldn't hurt to pull say, just 5 deg of timing out of it's base & see what happens, if your unsure about running TDC as your base.

Cheers

Yeah... I see what you're saying... Makes perfect sense... I naturally assumed the EL would run 10 deg BTDC like the ED though, hence why I set it there... If the EL is indeed TDC timed then I'll run it around there...

Just wanted to double check that figure was all...

Yeah, EL ECU is set to 0deg base timing. I ran 5deg BTDC base timing on my ed engine with au gasket and 95ron no worries so that much might be ok...

Thanks mate!

Went to get some nice engine bay shots and I had a mix of getting wet and a flat battery... So had to come home then...

Cheers,
Tim

Did it just the other day, but like most parts of the state it has been raining ever since and fairly cold... Only had issues on hot days... So not really sure how I am going at present... Only edging it back slowly until it disappears... Have it set at 5BTDC as recommended above by someone... Will see if it still pings there...

Best part thus far is NO OIL IN THE HEADER TANK!!!

Pretty sure that demon is gone...

Been flat stick with my education path lately so haven't had much time to scratch myself let alone work on any hobbies... Just started my ESI diploma and I'm World Skills this year in Sydney at the end of August/start of Sept... And have been noninated for TAFE student of the year & apprentice of the year... So the plate is full atm...

Cheers,
Tim
