What is with people suddenly brushing their own teeth. I mean, surely you should be a dentist to do that.

What is wrong with this here...

While I have posted a genuine thread asking for some advice.... Basically doing EXACTLY what this site is for.. I get 1 reply and 35 views...

Yet this gets 5 pages of DRIBBLE replys regularly fed to it...

This is fordmods, not Facebook..

EDIT: Just in case anyone is interested...

You'd have to be stupid to fit an aftermarket ecu instead of a quarterhorse to an E series V8.

Have you never heard of manually shifting an auto. I can choose to shift gears any rpm i want too and a shiftkit does the shift speed. Why pay 2k for an aftermarket ecu when the qh will do a superior job for a quarter of that cost. I can control things in the ecu that an aftermarket ecu could not even do.

Why the feck would you bother doing that. But there are plenty of people who have got Ford Ecu's working on other makes using the qh to modify the tune to work, in theory you could do it to a Ferrari but why the feck would you want too. Just why would you bother removing a factory ECU that can be re-flashed and replace it with a whole new ECU that in theory will not make an extra skerrick of horsepower over what a modified factory ecu will punch out. And the aftermarket ECU will not be able to control every parameter that the factory ECU can. And it would cost a fortune for no extra gain. It's a total WOFTAM.

The question needs to be asked as to why you would.

But it could be done, all the Ford ECU needs is a set of sensors that match the Ford ones. You'd just have to pick an ECU from a 4.6 modular DOHC engine and tune it to suit the Ferrari with the appropriate sensors fitted. Scaffy on AFF is using a Ford ECU to control an LS1 in an EL, just needed to find Ford compatible sensors to replace the GM ones.

I myself will be stepping to a Haltech in my ED, for one simple reason. Support. In Brisbane, no tuner wants to touch a QuarterHorse or J3, so why would I go that option? Especially when my chosen tuner loves Haltech's current range.

all good points, but if you know how to and are able to do it yourself, why not tune the factory ecu?

in some cars depending on what aftermarket ecu , you still need to keep the factory ecu as piggyback for a/c to operate, tacho signal for cluster ect..

and the factory ecu has more refined tuning which can be more complex but much better in a car that you still want to do all the things it did from factory...
