Just brought myself a new ute : AU series II xr6 ute with 192000km. Got it for under 6k.
>> 5 speed manual
>> hp motor (non vct)
>> leather interior and momo steering wheel

everything is basically stock so i have a few things I want to do to it.
- clear cote is coming off the bonnet and roof. That requires a full respray doesn't it?
- Full detail - buff n polish etc etc. Wan't to get it done properly, but depends how much its going to cost.
- 2.5" redback exhaust off ebay - Found one for $310 with two mufflers. Is this the best buy on a medium budget? What does a ute sound like with no rear resonator? Definitely can't be too loud - especially between 0-40km.
- Found some new pacemakers PH4499 on ebay for $320. Im believe these are the normal headers most people get? (Will me and my mate be able to rig up/install the whole system ourselfs fairly easily? Even if it requires a bit of welding and grinding?)
- High flow cat - [haven't researched yet]
- Get the rear springs reset and lowered front springs (do i need new shocks front and back?)
- Tint rear tail lights
-flat hard lid - colour coded silver (liquid silver) - Does anybody wan't to sell one? Let me know please! Need it cheap :D

these prob won't happen, but id like to:
- to get some 19" FG xr6t luxury wheels
- Get some second hand genuine AU ute side skirts (not pursuit brand).
- Install reground cam along with shaved head, new springs, etc.

Enjoy limited slip diff and the safety of ABS and a driver's side airbag. A 90 L tank can pull over 1000km on the highway and trip computer will let you know when it's time to Fuel up. The plastic tub liner is rated to over 500kg and the ute tows heavy trailers with no worries at all. The paintwork is in good condition all over the car, with the clear coat peeling on the right side of the bonnet, an easy fix.
For a fun car with very comfortable leather seats and great driving position, you have plenty of power at your disposal with the 4.0L Tickford six cylinder. It revs nice and low in 5th gear, allowing it to be economical when you need it, cruise control from the steering wheel is great. The cab is very spacious with plenty of room for suitcases etc all the way across.

sorry mate they weren't included in the sale....for $200 less. How much are they worth anyway?

Otherwise yes, I would have sold em to you cus I had no need (hence I knocked the price down :) )

I've already noticed it, but need to find a solution for this problem! Coolant tank rusted badly! I suppose this is from a previous owner running water?
How much damage could this be to the block? i haven't had a chance to check it out properly yet, but I don't think there are any leaks in the head.

Just give the whole cooling system a good flush and put in coolant.

As for the header tank, you can try and clean it but they all go crappy or replace it. Be careful of the cheap Ebay header tanks, they have been known to split.

jUst cleaned the tank up with some rust inhibitor (didn't do heaps) but scrubbed the accessible areas (level indicators) so i can clearly see coolant level. Gave it a good flush (with hose) from the back heater hose and ran coolant flush. Doesn't over heat as much any more :).

Coolant level hasn't changed over the past few weeks so hopefully it doesn't have any leaks.

Update: Sportsbar Installed

Definite aesthetic improvement. Although I would prefer flat hardlid, for practicality and cost reasons this was the better option. Much easier to access the tub I think. Purchased off local guy who had it on his Silhouette xr8 AU. He now has a three piece hardlid lowered on 19" FG wheels. Looks awesome i tell u!!

(P.s. Can someone please buy my tonneau? Ill do a good fordmods deal ;) OR if someone has 1 or 2 AU xr6 17" wheels in good condition they would like to swap for the tonneau? 2 of mine have pretty bad gutter rash.

goes heaps better! The sound was a bit weird at the start, but after 1000km or so its starting to sound a lot better.

(I didn't actually have the luxury of installing it on a hoist). This was a guy checking it out after as something was hitting. We determined it was the exhaust pipe (tip) hitting the tow bar. Pretty easy fix i think but has any one else experienced this issue? (hits when going over bumps in road)

Just curious, have you come close to 1000km a tank yet?

Nah! If he really did get 1000km, he was probably doing a heap of highway driving and driving very conservatively. (he probably got 929km or something :D)

I have done quite a bit of highway driving this week and i've got 650km (needs refuel very soon).

How do you go?

never seen over 700, average 650, although it does have over 250,000kms on it. Gained 50-100 with the manual conversion but still nowhere near 1000.

Yeah ok seems a bit exaggerated doesn't it.

What about exhaust and intake mods. Any improvements seen there?

Nothing drastic, it all helps but in reality driving conservatively is the only way to truly save fuel in a four litre.
