Hi there,
Put an EL Auto ECU into an EBII (w/ Smartlock) Auto today. Found that it runs the fuel pump constantly (even when in on, does this past the normal priming) and will start only in Limp Home mode (10deg timing, high idle, loads of fuel). Any ideas as to why? My only guess is that the ECU may be faulty, but thats a long shot. Anyone done this in an Auto before with some tips? EDIT: Updated post below, originally a faulty ECU was causing LOS mode, still having problems with the Auto however Cheers, Jason

BENJ did this same conversion early on in his Sedan build, and i dont think there was such a problem. Along with other people that have done it i know of. Maybe it could be faulty ecu.

This IIRC is bugger all advance, injectors pulsing every cycle. It is most likely as you guessed a faulty ECU, as an internal fault usually causes it.
You'll have already guessed to fit another EL ECU - there plentiful and usually cheap.

hm. will have to find another ECU. not happy, wanted to wire this car up with ECU controlled thermos.

I did that by sourcing the wiring/relays/fuse from an EL, and they work fine to my knowledge.

Yeah, it must be the ECU. Put up a wanted ad, if anyone has one kicking about ill trade you a 6 pack for it

Got another ECU and quickly plugged it in to test it today. It ran fine - first one must have been a dud.

All,
This conversion is still not 100%. The car is running the original EB auto and with the EL ECU is doing some odd things. 1. It will hold first until 4 grand on mild throttle then slam into 2nd. It seems to do this more when cold. 2. It will kick down very oddly from what seems to be 4-3-2 on mild throttle when going up a hill. It kind of flares then goes into gear then out then back in. 3. It will sometimes flare on a kickdown from 4-2 on heavy throttle at say 70km/h then slam into 2nd. None of these traits are present when running an EB ECU, which rules out a faulty trans. Has anyone done this conversion in an Auto with an original transmission - i.e. not with a newer trans? I know there are minor differences in the transmissions from M91 to M93 but I thought none were electrical. Any help appreciated. Jason

I'm pretty sure when Benj done it originally to the red sedan, it still had the EB auto. Maybe shoot him a PM, i can't remember there being a trick to it or anything.

Hi.
When I installed the EL GLi ECU in my EB while running the EB Engine and EB Auto, I had no issues at all with shift changes etc. It all worked as it should. Later I added the EL engine and EL Ghia ECU, still with the EB Auto, and again no issues at all with the ECU or the auto changes. BenJ

Is your car an EB2 as well?
Bens original car was an EB1 - this might have something to do with it. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it. Surely more people than just Ben have done this? Cheers, Jason

Mine is an EB 1.
I did the transmission wiring conversion for the EAs/EB1's (the auto is controlled by the BEM instead of the ECU). KOEO comes back with fan errors as I'm running a temp switch and still haven't hooked up the EL wiring. Will do KOER tommorow afternoon as I ran out of light. |
