Same thing happened to my wagon a few weeks ago, I got sick of changing dizzys and coils with second hand units from my wrecks, so I lashed out and purchased a new TFI and coil, set me back 90$ for the two.

So having hall effect/TFI/Coil/injector inputs as standalones with breakout plugs for diagnostics mightn't be that bad an idea ???
Might save some $$$ getting the car going.

Well less than 10mins after leaving home, I reverse into most of the time two free parking bays (lines aren't clear, so we all don't care), thought I would just be an A hole and rub it in The only thing I wish for is under cover parking where the pigeons won't crap on the car, so I park out in the sun .
How in the dark I am, I still haven't seen a car lift. Bad luck with the second hand coils, but it makes me think there maybe another issue which is overloading the coils.

More BA Parts
I have now acquired a couple more parts for the Barra Project. I was at my local parts supermarket with Snap and he found a BA Manual Ute. The PCM was still installed, as well as the hydraulic clutch pedal and reservoir. I was quite happy to be able to acquire these items. In addition, I found on Ebay a Barra engine going for $100 with only 55000 kays on it. I put in a low bid and to my surprise won it for $102.50. I spoke to the seller, and he said that if I wanted I could also take the turbo engine that needs the bottom end rebuilt for free. I debated on this for, oh, 1/2 a second, and said yes please. I arranged to pick up the two engines, and agreed with my mate that I sourced the first Barra engine from that he would take the NA engine and I would keep the turbo donk. The turbo engine has the sump still on it along with the head and the inlet manifold. Certainly more that $100 worth of parts. I have also been able to acquire a factory blow off valve (Cheers XTT909) so my list of turbo parts is growing nicely now. Steering Rack Leak As previously mentioned, I have been putting up with a leak from the steering rack. Snap was visiting this week end and had some spare seals etc. Snap was kind enough to rebuild the pinion housing with new seals and the wagon now has much smoother feeling steering, and best of all no leaks. Thanks again Snap!!!! Exhaust Tip For some time now I have been on the lookout for a suitable exhaust tip to suit the wagon, and the rear bar now that it is fitted. I was visiting a local exhaust shop to pick up some flange gaskets the other week I noticed he had a good range of exhaust tips. So I went back there again and selected a stainless dual skin tip. The difficulty in choosing a tip for the wagon is that there a very short amount of room before the tailpipe bends, and I knew that any tip I choose would have to be modded to fit nicely. A dual skin tip allows for that to occur. I was down at SWC's today helping him install new front suspension uprights which had new ball joints in them, new rotors, pads and bearings. After we got that sorted, SWC modified the new tip. It was decided to install the tip for now using tech screws as the inside pipe was too large and left a gap that was too wide to be filled with weld. A sleeve will be fabricated if needed at a later date. Any way enough talk, time for the pics. The Tip Shortening it On the Car I am stoked with the overall look, and the size works nicely with the bar. Cheers BenJ

Coil Relocation
Whoever the idiot was at Ford that decided a great place for the ignition coil is to stick it under the inlet manifold, needs to be made to remove one at home in a driveway. I actually did this last year when the first coil failed, and thought it was time to post it up, now that I have had more coil issues. Early last year I was helping SWC install a coil in his good lady's EL Fairmont Wagon, and between us we tried a number of places to remotely mount the coil. We didn't want it to be 'obvious', but easy access was important, as well as cooling. In the end we mounted the coil off the top A/C pump bolt using the std coil bracket modified slightly. This is your std coil bracket. From the factory there are two of these on the coil, but we only need one. This is really easy, and takes less than a minute. All you need to do is make the large bolt hole bigger, so that the shaft of the bolt from your A/C pump will fit through it. Simple. Then take out your airbox, remove the top A/C pump bolt (13mm socket needed), slip on the bracket with the coil attached, and tighten up the bolt. The hard part is extending the wiring for the coil plug. I had to cut the plug off, and add in enough wire so the plug will reach the new location. Sounds simple, but access is painful at best. I did it from under the car reaching up, using crimp connectors. You could try to solder it but there really isn't the room. On SWC's car he had purchased a new coil, which has the plug and high tension lead on the same side, and came with a small extension lead. We extended the lead and then just plugged it into the loom. The coil lead from the dizzy was rerouted and reaches easily. Pics of the coil in place. As my car also has LPG, I made sure the additional coolant hoses were clear and couldn't rub on the coil or wiring. Apart from ease of access to the coil, it also benefits from air being passed over it while the thermo fans are on etc. BA XR Snorkle I neglected to mention that while at PnP I found a BA XR Snorkle on an EF XR6. I took it home for $10. Here it is fitted. Looks like the old one, just bigger. I will locate some short screws and bolt it down. Cheers BenJ

Speed holes have been in there for a loooong time, from when I had the Red Sedan LOL.
The EBs have some nicely placed holes in that corner that feed in fresh air. Cheers BenJ

Nice thought on the coil placement, next time I have to do a coil I think i will move it to where you have placed it. Probably gotta do one on my mates ED next. I'll pickup an extension lead for the "new" bosch coils thru work & extend it to allow for plug & play.

Huggie has pointed out to me that this probably won't work on a car with a log manifold.
