Hey all...

I spose its about time I did one of these... You'll have to bear with me that I don't have the room, tools, time or money to create a masterpiece like some people on here have, but this is what is mine...

I spose it started with getting L's and wanting a car... At 16 I wasn't wanting to do a manual conversion (although I now know its possible) I wanted a factory manual... Early in 2006 a white manual ED falcon came up on ebay in Goulburn and I won it for $1600...

As dad is a Ford mechanic we borrowed the Tilt Tray Tow Truck and headed off to get it... Bumping into his boss (who was on the way home from Sydney) and stopping at the ford dealership on the way into Goulburn, out of the corner of our eyes we found a red manual ED falcon...

We departed to pick up the white ED and test drove it... It was crap... needed loads of TLC... Tinting was bulbling and interior was a mess and didn't go real good... So we went back to test drive the red one and it was basic as it was owned buy an elderly couple so it was well looked after but it was a much better car...

And so the ford dealership owner said he'd take 1600 for it so we took the red one home, and as such became the second owners of it...

This is pretty much what it looked like when we got it home:

Being in school with only a part time job went about doing two things:
A) What was needed to get it one the road &
B) What was cheap...

As old people do... It had never had any coolant put in the motor... So as you can imagine... everything steel was knacked...

From memory it got:
*New Steel pipes (both the one on the thermostat housing and the bypass that runs around behind the motor...
*New water pump
*New radiator
*A "cleaner" header tank
*All manifolds removed and the welsh plugs pulled and the mud (yes mud) blown out of the water gulley's inside the block and then new welsh plugs fitted...
*Injectors cleaned and serviced
*New belts
*New filters (Oil Fuel Air)
*New exhaust
*And major one was removing dash to fix the snapped peg that the clutch pedal swivels on and at the same time strengthening of it...
*New windscreen

and other non critical to rego mods were:
*Painting the rocker cover, door handles, mirror backings
*Removing of all silly protectors (bonnet, headlights, etc.)
*Clear indicators
*Tacho Instrument cluster which a guy off ebay made me some white faced dials for with blue illumination...
*Putting blue LED's in things (rear demister switch, cig lighter, ash tray, footwells, and a blue CD player, still getting around to buying some 1/8W resistors to doing the AC Controls in blue LED's
*Acquirement of a BA 5 speed shifter lead to that being modified and fitted also...
*Towbar which we colour coded before putting on to help appear more invisible when the gooseneck isn't on...

That pretty much got it on the road and reliable to take anywhere...

That Christmas got a full set of Pedders grey springs and fitted them up... and with all that this is pretty how it stayed until i finished school and got more money to do the more expensive things to it that I wanted to do...

It was during a later stage after getting my P's that I got tinted windows...

Then comes the only tingle its been in... You know how there are those old people who just shouldn't be on the road? One of them backed into me... I pulled up down the main street to let a car back out and she backed out straight into the side of me while I was waiting and there was nothing I could do to stop it... I mean seriously, how do you miss a great big bright red car in your rear vision mirror... Damn old people... Ruined my precious ride anyway... Luckily her insurance paid for it... This is it after the panel beaters took to it with a slide hammer:

The last major thing that really happened was the pacemaker extractors and with fitment of these lead to the discovery of a leaking head gasket and then that being replaced also...

It was after I finished school and started using this website more I discovered what is actually possible for the old boxcar...

I started an apprenticeship and had all this money and have since gone a bit mad with doing things to make it a one of around the town (which isn't always a good thing either)

First there was a momo wheel with cruise... which was for sale on here, but I bought it on ebay when it was listed there...

Attachment:
IMG_0734.jpg

and then there was the bug for the personalised plates and so they happened too:

Attachment:
IMG_0807.jpg

and lately I have done heaps to it, however I still dont have any photos of the current mods as such they will come later

*There is the XR front with 6000K HID Low beams, Xenon Halogen High beams and White LED parkers...
*Bought a set of 17's off here for 650 bucks with mostly good tyres...
*EL XR6 Door trims which also entitles a front power window conversion, and I went a little different here, instead of using the plain boring ED window switches I used BA/BF Ghia illuminating ones and only two of (as ED ones only come in a four way) so it looks a little neater and at night I have a soft white glow from the switches... Again something a little different and personalised...
*Bought a cam and about to send it to get ground to a Wade 1636 for which I also have a vernier gear (again both ebay items) and this will be the first engine related modification in quite some time...

Future plans would be:

*EL ECU with TI Performance Chip
*Thermofans
*Engine rebuild
*Bonnet with XR8 bulge
*Maybe one day forced induction

But like all good things... take time and money and unfortunately the house currently has priority so for a while yet I might just be watching you guys doing the modding... One day though I'll get round to my beast...

Thanks for reading...

Nice looking ride mate. You have done well.
How did you go about doing the BA shifter boot mod? What bits did you need to get and what did it wind up costing you?
Im thinking it would look good in the ute.

BenJ...

Cheers,

Will try and remember to get some tomorrow although its raining here and as such the car isn't real clean... But it'll give you any idea anyway...

EVL098...

Simple as... Only the price of the gearstick with the boot (mine was free, whatever you can get one for)... On the BA one dow the bottom there is a steel "U" shaped bracket that goes around the rubber with a bolt pressed into it, you take it off and use the "U" bracket off your ED shifter with just the two holes in it... Use the original bolts and bolt it back up...

Tricky bit is just making a cut out template to cut out the original surround, it just fits in without showing the rectangle that was already cut into it... We buggered up my first one but got the second one pretty right... Just a matter of not taking out too much in one go...

Last little thing is you need to take some small sections out of the centre console to allow it to sit through the hole (only due to the diameter of the BA gearstick base...) I can get photos to show you mine if you want... Just put them in with a linisher (multi-tool) on a bench grinder...

Only thing I am going to do to it is finally work out how to unscrew the knob without damaging the aluminium and then get about 2 inchs taken out of it as it just looks a little too high in the ED compare to how it looks in the BA... and of course as soon as I have money I'm getting on of those 120 bucks short throws that Troyman & BenJ have in their rides... Should make a sweet shifter all in all... :)

Thanks guys,
Tim

put a ba gear stick into it, i've got one in mine. they are about an inch or two shorter than a standard ef one, which i imagine is similar length to an ED one. they bolt straight in too

nice tidy looking car too though mate

haha... thats ok... you confused me... I wennt back to re-read what I had to make sure it mad sense...

Yes just a tad tall for what I'd like though... Somewhere 1 and 2 inches shorter would be perfect Just seems that as it is so tall pulls on the boot a little much and causes the leather to tear... I might take it out and get a suede one made up... Something not so brittle...

Cheers,
Timmy

Hey guys,

Finally back with some photos of the front and mags and the HID 6000k's...

Was a bit dark to take interior photos of the EL XR trims but the slow shutter speed got some nice outside photos...
