should be par tof the 3 month warrenty on ANY 2nd hand car.. but being a 03 it still should be new car warrenty

as for the tank were it is... gives more boot space and a much higher crash damage rating ie safer..

ps dont drill a ba behind the rear seats for sub mounting... u will need a new tank as it will have hole..

The fuel tank is mounted there so you dont go up in flames in a rear end crash, you might want to thank Ford rather than criticise.

yeah but why mount it half up underneath the suspension where it cant be got too. thats just stupid. Rear end crash would prolly cause bits of the suspension to go up and puncture it anyway

My mechanic gave ford here a ring to ask them why they were questioning it's validity as a warranty claim. they gave him the cold shoulder and told him that because someone had stopped the leak with a temporary fix, the warranty was voided even though this may have even been done by another ford service center (and probably was seeing all servicing has been carried out by a large brisbane ford dealer)
My friend just told me to ring ford, state that it has been assessed and found to be a known fault with the BA series, and request approval for warranty over the phone.
He also said not to mention the offending dealer over the phone as they do question the service center for their behaviour, and then you risk them stuffing up the job out of spite.
so i guess it's 13ford time in the morning...

Mine had this problem. Common problem BA/BF sedan models . I used STAG joint paste (All Fuel Resistant) and brushed it around the crack where filler neck meets tank. Let it dry for a day. Fixed the problem. 2 years later and still ok. STAG Joint paste can be purchased from Autobarn. Sold in tube form like tooth paste.

Considering this post is from 12 years ago, I'm sure it is a lot more common these days

STAG is bloody brilliant gear though, good tip
