I haven't solved the problem either , I was going to replace the leads n plugs today but didn't get around to it, as you said you've replaced ignition gear and it's done nothing

As good as these pre programmed J3 chips may be, every car is different and I think that ultimately your car should be tuned by someone in the know on a dyno to see what is really going on with the spark and fuel delivery of the motor. In fact I would say it could almost be dangerous doing it this way as it is almost like running blind; you don't know exactly what is happening with the motor.

Most people supply a dyno sheet which I can base the tune off. There are also Tuners who can tune using the same chips, or touch up a tune etc. It may not get a perfect result, but most chips I do are for common cams, and I'm getting pretty close for a quarter of the price.

This particular car has been tricky, some kind if hardware issue. Corey (ef_falcon_95) is sending me the chip and ECU to check it out.

Cheers,
Jason

i would have to agree with the both of you it needs to be done on a dyno and done right but it needs to be done by someone who understands the chosen software! like jason in this instance not just any dyno operator!

DarkELxr6, if removing your chip solves the problem, check the installation guide you were sent when you bought your chip for some troubleshooting steps (to see if its in LOS), double check the port is clean and shoot me a PM.

Corey's car has been a tricky one, its not the tune, chip, ECU or LoS mode but its still playing! As its a backfire I assume its spark related but its hard to diagnose interstate. Next step after checking the ignition gear will be taking it to a dyno up in NSW to get it checked out.

Cheers,
Jason

firstly find out where the backfiring is heard from ie: from the exhaust or through the intake as even that can give you a clue.....

It's coming from the exhaust

I know this is an old thread but does anyone have any ideas on solutions to this problem?
Having almost identical issues...
Random intermittent heat soak related misfire, custom dyno tuned, remove J3 chip, problem gone.
Ignition system and almost all sensors, pumps and filters have been replaced or tested with an oscilloscope and are all working.
I should add, 3 tuners have looked at it, different binary files used and different chips tested.
Is it simply an ECU compatibility problem? S3 factory manual VCT ute.
