what sort of benefit would you get over a your standard ecu, if you only have minmimal mods like exhaust and cam.
would they be much of a power increase.

For mods like an exhaust and cam you would see minimal gains.

You might be able to get 10rwkw out of your setup using an aftermarket ECU to fine tune the air fuel ratios and modify the timing.

IMO aftermarket ECU's are only worthwhile if you turbo or supercharge your engine or have a cam big enough that stops the car from running well. ie I had a cam in my EA that fouled plugs every 3 start ups because the stock ECU couldnt cope.

The price of the megasquirt makes it a good bang for buck option IMO.

I wouldn't spend $2500 on aftermarket ECU for a car with an exhaust and cam change but I would spend $800 for a megasquirt and a wideband plus a lot of my own time to acheive similar results.

I'm running a MS1 with MSnS-E code on my ED XR6. I have fully replaced the stock ECU. Runs great & haven't had any problems.

Good stuff. How is your fuel economy and power compared to standard?

Did you build it yourself? Did you tune it or get someone else to?

Only really use the car on weekends, get about 400ks to 60l with alot of time spent between 4000-6000rpm.

Have done all the tuning myself, built a TechEdge wideband O2 which made tuning the fuel easy. My spark map needs some work, but I'm still playing around with it.

Thats a short time for putting a BA motor in an E-Series.
Look at all the other people who are 'doing' it
Yours is going a hell of alot quicker

I guess if you look at it that way you are right. Phongus is still thinking about it isnt he? lol

I reckon if I did it again it would only take a weekend.
I would buy a stock motor and leave the stock manifolds on, change the throttle body over, change throttle cables to an EF one, hook up some hoses, do the cooler piping then take it to get the ECU and exhaust done.

This has only taken forever cos I hid the engine bay wiring and started with an NA motor, changed the heater core, sold my old turbo and bought a bigger one etc etc.

Hopefully its running within the next month. Im getting sick of looking at it.
