hmmmm, I'm planning on doing some more indepth measuring up tomorrow.. but right now, there seems to be a great deal of room over my extractors.. If I put two heat shields over them.. it would be an option to put it there also... have to see which method is easier.

yer that has been done as well
but usually with custom headers to bring the front 2-3 cyl primaries right back

Well, if I moved the power steering pump.. It has about 2 inches more gap than above the intake.. so it would definitely fit..

I don't like the position as much as where the air con is.. but it looks like it might be easier..

i'd say moving the p/s pump would be harder. that would require probably custom made hoses and a new bracket. Those high pressure hoses aren't cheap, specially if you need a custom one made up.

True.. and when I looked last night.. without the oil filter in the way.. I'm almost positive the charger will fit where the air compressor was.. I'd much prefer that, because the air con hoses are flexible and it is small enough to go over the intake manifold, and the whole charger will be almost invisible.

Now I just have to find a remote filter attachment..

Another upside to this, is that replacing the compressor with the blower will mean I can use the standard belt and stuff until I need the air con again.

I did some checking and that 1113 page lists motors that use the PH8A ford filter..

According to this page:
http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue/xref/xref/PH8A

That filter is equiv to the Ryco Z9.. which is the filter I've been putting into my Falcon for years...

So tentatively, I think this is the one I need.. and it's pretty cheap too by the look of it.

I won't order it yet just in case someone here knows something about it that I don't.

Ok, some size up photos..

Here is a general one that shows the relative lengths..
Image

As you can see, the charger is bigger than it looks by itself.

This conversion might actually work better with the BBM manifold than it would have with the Log.. if only because the log sits lower. (god knows where I'm gonna put the air compressor later though.. probably under the SC if the oil filter is moved away.

Now, if the charger was to sit at the same angle that the oil filter is now.. the only things stopping it are the metal heater pipe (which I've already bent up out of the way) and the cable plug on the dizzy... which I might be able to do something about.

Almost positive it will fit.. I may have to swap that side to a standard ED engine mount though as they are smaller and might give me more clearance.

Here is a closer shot, keep in mind that the heater pipe has since been easily moved upwards a few inchs out of the way.

Image

I seriously doubt this would be doable with the log manifold, but with the BBM, I might just be able to make one big plate and from that mount the charger (angled in) and the compressor under it. I won't know about the compressor until I check the clearances at the top edge of the sump to the body rails.

Not sure what I can do about the connector for the Dizzy.. I have a spare to play with, so will see.

Thoughts anyone?

The first step I can see here, is to get an oil filter re-locater kit and get the oil filter out of there.. then I can get the outlet pipes on the M90 changed to suit the new position (back one needs to be turned around)

Fun.... if worse comes to worse,, maybe I'll go looking for an electric compressor and ditch the mechanicle one altogether.. that might even allow me to keep the existing belt arrangement altogether.

Here is my two minute image edit, to see if I can get an idea of how it would fit.. both items are two scale too so it will be moderately accurate.

not 100% sure on the filter kit

but with the location of charger

get rid of the dizzy and switch to coil pack
then u can put that where ever you want with appriate customleads if needed, could even mount on fire wall or even on drivers side tower near the overflow bottle

i would also move/modify the metal heater pipe to a flexible one and run it down next to the timing cover to teh sump then back to the firewall

If you switch to coil pack.. don't you then need the crank angle sensor where the dizzy was?

I will start drain the motor in the coming week to see if the charger will fit without the filter in the way.. and start taking measurements from the rails in the engine bay to see how much space I have to play with.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It I can remove the oil filter and sort out the dizzy block plug which sticks out 2.5 inches out from the dizzy, the charger will fit with the BBM manifold.

I just took the intake and outlet adapters off, and took it out there to test..

The oil filter only blocks the inlet pipe, so without that attached to the charger, I was able to sit it in place..

If I could move the block plug on the dizzy over to the back of the dizzy rather than the front. (be reversing the internals I guess) I will be able to get the M90 right up under the BBM and even still keep the EF/EL engine mounts.

I wasn't entirely sure before, but I am now.. if I can get the dizzy block plug out of the way and pick up a remote oil filter adaptor.. I will have an M90 installed where an air compressor was fitted yesterday.

very cool and almost totally stealth.. the only non stealth part of it will be the intercooler piping.. and I can hide that a bit also.

It is much easier to work stuff out when the engine is sitting on the shed floor rather than in the car (which has one too obviously.)

Does anyone have any ideas on the dizzy side of things? (other than changing to coil pack which would require a new engine loom and ECU etc..)

where are you putting the throtle body , blow through or draw through? you will need vacum for brakes , heater etc. draw through gives vac between blower and throtle and doesnt need blow off valve
