well there is a couple of other things than just the cams, but we will be able to get a fair idea of how much better the cams make it, i know its not gonna be fun to drive at low rpm, or shold i say it will be fun............na its all good the stall wont let this thing see much under 2800rpm unless its idling.

Hell yeah man sounds like it will be a weapon aye. So are you getting your heads ported at the same time?

I might be pulling mine apart next year if it doesnt fall apart first. One of my big ends are gone too, so if its too far gone ill go new short motor. Actually, maybe i can sell my old motor and someone can use it as a boat anchor.

the cams are ment for a 4.6 with ported heads, or the 5.4 with stock heads as the ausy 3v 5.4 heads already have great air speed, and good volume, so porting will come in next time when i do the bottom end so i can spin this thig to 7000rpm then i know there will be 500rwhp plus n/a, seen it done with the 4.6's, and if i have to destroke i will but i will do alot of reshearch and planning on this before making a final decision on the combo.

Hell yeah, that will be mad once its done aye. The good thing about this setup though is youve done the transmission and the diff aswell so it can handle the power.

If you wanna go for the 4.6L you might need a new block as the 5.4's have a higher deck.

Check these guys out www.modularmustangracing.com, these guys do some pretty mad 4.6L and 5.4L engines and short motors. And with the awesome aussie dollar its good value IMO.

can someone explain what the phasers are? what they do and why they are faulty on these motors? just out of my own interest :)

They sit in place of the cam gears. They're oil pressure controlled (via a ECU controlled solenoid) allowing the advance/retard on the cam to be adjustable by the ECU on the 'go'.

Essentially means, the cams are always at the right degree setting no matter the current RPM of the motor.

In Ford land this started with the AU I6 with VCT, BA I6's got a phaser on each cam, BF's made them independently controlled. The 3 valve 5.4's got it too. The BOSS (in any guise) never got them.

interesting, so its the variable cam module. didnt realise they were oil pressure controlled. so boss motors do not have variable timing? interesting i did not know that
