Hey guys,
My AC compressor is on its way out. i.e. i need to change it now before summer as it is making the loudest noise which is louder than my exhaust. This may be a slightly stupid question, but, would i be able to use an AC compressor from a BA/BF or FG in my EL. If not, can anyone tell me why? Cheers Pete |

different aircon lines, and mounting positions, you'll need an ef/el maybe au? compressor

Thank you New ones are bloody expensive... I looked them up on Ebay and they're around and over $500 Not sure how much a wrecker would charge for a second hand one... Shouldn't be to much though

^^^ You'll need to probably fit a new front shaft seal and shim it - the old one will most likely start to leak in months.
OP - your compressor makes noise when engaged ?? Or all the time ?? I'm guessing not much cooling (if any at all) when running.

What you can do is manually rotate the compressor clutch - probably might feel rough to rotate, which will most likely mean either or both the front and rear bearings might be shot.
You can also take off the belt and spin the pulley - if it's rough and has some play, you can get that off in situ and replace it - might be noisy when the load is put on, such as the compressor. The former though needs the compressor dismantled, which I think is more likely the issue.

Are you sure it's the compressor and not the fact that it's low on gas? My EF wagon gets noisy when it's compressor is low on gas. Just a suggestion
