G'day people,

Can someone in the know let me know if the Air conditioner in conjunction with the thermo fans suppose to cycle, that is when a temperature is reached, the thermo fan switches off, when temperature is hot, thermo switches on again?

Had gas recharged about month or so ago, technicians said inside temperature now 9 degrees Celsius.

After this was done had no problems apart from not cycling as well as one instance cold air cut out when driving on New England Highway going up a hill near Nobby, then cold air came good again.

Techies cant tell me what the issue is or could be. Any thoughts?

you mean the thermo/radiator fans turn off when the aircon is on?

No, I mean when the aircon temp is reached its cold setting, that is, )the one that the aircon techy deems to be the correct temperature )should one of the thermo fan switch off and only come back on when the aircon temperature starts to rise, hence the cycling?


My vehicle is not climate control fitted, just normal standard aircon being a Ford AUII

if the air but out when going up a hill, likely loss of vacuum for the heater box. its all vacuum driven. There are two vacuum lines to the engine bay - one to the heater tap, one to the manifold. Make sure they are both on.

As for Cycling - on an AU, that depentds on many things - Refrigerant Temp, refrigerant Pressure, airbox Temp, Engine Load, engine Speed etc. It should cycle, but may not at Idle. Again, in the AU its fairly complicated based on all of the above.

Thanks for that info. It's only happened on the odd occasion so far, but have noticed slightly at other times. admittedly they were on the hottest day that we've had.

I'm certain those vacuum lines are connected.

But can check again when there is a cooler day and no rain, only have an open carport.
