Hi all i know this a well worn issue but i have an oct 99 build AU v8 ute auto
The door locks keep activating 3 times when you open or close.
i had to replace ignition did that but locksmith still cannot recode keys.
Took ute to local ford dealer they still cannot fix either.
we have tried replacing the yellow BEM unit with 2 different units still no joy.
we pulled apart the door lock actuators and they all look ok no breaks or cracks in any parts.

is this fixable or should i look at having the whole ignition system replaced with something simple and route all electrics otherwise thru a different system?
appreciate any good feed back or contacts i can use in Adelaide

Is it smart lock or smart shield
What month 99 is it
If you replace ignition system you will probably find you will also need to replace ecu with a suitable unit or fit a chip to bypass immobiliser
What was wrong with ignition switch
Does it crank and not fire or not

Try disconnecting door lock one at a time while testing in between
Does it do the same from door barrel

build date is October 99.
Ignition was replaced as key was worn no back up key. so was door lock
initially the motor cranked once or twice, then nothing to the point not even a click from the relays.
i have been able to obtain another yellow box(BEM Unit) but still same problem.
tried disconnecting door locks like you suggested but that didnt make any difference at the time.

no idea on smart shield or smart lock issue.

mates snap on diag tool shows central lock not responding but everything else shows ok .
i was advised last night to send yellow box to injectronics in VIC and have them repair it but not sure yet to do this as it may be a waste of time and finances supposedly relay may be shot
.just need to single out a relay test procedure that might give a hint.

he actually meant what remote do you have? do you have the earlier EB-ED-EF-EL remote which is smartlock or the AU1.5-2-3 remote which is smartshield ?

Treat ignition key and lock remotes as 2 separate issues - both work thru the bem however

Ignition key should have a half slot where key ring goes should be smart shield system

After refitting old bem-Try wrapping black head of current ignition key with alfoil and place head of your old key near key reader and see if it starts

Does interior light work
If you turn ignition to accessory position and push rear demist button 3 times does central locking operate to tell you your in remote programming mode

If you change bem you need to program 2 keys with scan tool and carry out ecu parameter reset before it starts

cheers for that info , i can confirm the dealership myself and locksmith that we all did same thing.
Keys do have a ring slot.
all electrics work around the car.

i will have to see what dealer says Monday when we collect car and take it back to workshop.
i will follow a revised test process of checking the antenna signal device around barrel assembly and work forward from there.
