I have a BA heater/aircon unit which I am fitting to my 60 Studebaker Hawk and I need to know how to drive the air direction vanes.

You fitting in all the canbus stuff to make it happen? The HIM module is driven by canbus amongst other things...

Now I will have to think about this. I did not expect that. Is the heater control unit stand alone. IE can I just buy the controls such as: {DESCRIPTION}

God no...
The ICC will not work until paired to the BEM... Comes up with a security error... It will not turn on until it receives a can wake up request... From there I'm not sure how much other info is required from other sensors and similar... It definitely talks to the PCM as the fan in my turbo will not run on heat until the motor warms up... It also receives speedo signal from the cluster module... As when I've had a flat battery it logs a speedo signal fault... Attached is just the CAN topography... Attachment: So that heater control as you call is the ICC module shown... It is wired to the BEM which is then wired to the HIM is the HVAC Inegrated Module which is the unit full of motors to run the heaterbox shafts and fan... Fair chance it wont do anything until you have the key and barrel hooked up to drive it (which would all need to be coded in together to function and avoid the security error)... If you want standalone climate control you'll have to adopt it from an earlier vehicle... The AU run a more simple communications network and it possibly could be retrofited (would require more research)... Cheers, Tim

Too much technology fo a simlpe thing. I have a heater core, an evaporator and a fan with some vanes directing the air. It is only the air flow I need to control the rest is easy. I have not looked in this HIM module yet but it looks like electric actuators. It Cannot be too hard to make them move. I guess it was the wiring diagram for the HIM that I was interested in. Most of the driving is done via the canbus network but... Again nothing will work until it is connected to all its mating modules... To make it run crude you'd have pull it to bits... Turf the electronics and make your own driver board and controls depending how it actually drives the arms (stepper or similar motors)... Cheers, Tim

Well I had a look inside the HIM module and then put it back together.
I think I made a mistake thinking I could use this heater box. What a nightmare. There is more electronics in that HIM than an entire PC motherboard. I will look for something a little easier to adapt. Building a megasquirt for the 302 is much easier. Thanks for your help and assistance Tim. Much appreciated. Allan. |

Hi Guys.
Getting a lot closer with this project. Attachment: Attachment: I need a little help with this. Does anyone have a circuit diagram for this please? Attachment: The diagram in the post above is not for this control unit. so before I reverse engineer it I will ask as it would make it easier. Allan |

The diagram above for the manual climate should be pretty close... These are a series 1 so possibly a wire colour different or two, work the same way but resistor network and relay for the fan motor and the other switches are signals to the PCM, etc...
These series 1 sets were a PITA as they have a catch that breaks in the recycle switch and it wont stay clicked on... Locking it to either recycle or fresh full time (can't remember which now)... If you can fit an AU 2 style set that'd be better in the long run for you... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2002-Ford-AU ... 419997ee29 Up to you but...
