Hi thanks for the help, I have a 2003 ford ba Xr6, it just broke down, the battery has been dying, and everything turns off, driving home last night, my headunit turned off, then the abs light turned on, then all my gauges stopped working, then it wasn't running on all cylinders . I put a different battery in, it was 12.9 volts, the next morning it was 12.7, but when I turned on the car, it was pumping out 14.6 volts, half way to work this morning it died and is now on the side of the road.
Any ideas why if my alternator is working, my battery is still going flat, seems like something is draining it more then it is charging |

I think so, let me know if I am wrong, but when I tested my battery it was 12.9 volts, and I turned the car on, and it went up the 14.4

14.4volts indicates charging - however could be intermittant -what voltage was battery when it cut out ?
disconnect negative cable, connect your multimeter (10 amp connection and scale) negative cable to negative meter cable positive meter cable to negative battery terminal and check for current draw after allowing it to sit for 45min.(approximately - .04-.05 amp is normal) close and lock doors, leave glovebox open so you know when battery saver circuit turns off-light goes off, after 45 min.above- time will restart if you open door etc. current should drop after time period to normal draw........ DO NOT TRY TO START WITH METER CONNECTED LIKE THIS......................... check connectors near air filter box for water and or corrossion (c125) as this was a common cause of battery drain-- -have you fitted any accessories recently? |
