Hi there,
Can anyone give me any idea on why my EL's Factory Central Locking sometimes over cycles.
Occasionally when I push the button on the remote the locking cycles up, down, up, down, up, down etc and when it finishes the horn gives a few short beeps.
Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check the sensors on the doors (that button that makes the light go on and off) one of them might be stuffed. My eb was doing something similar once.

plastic windage gear inside one of your central locking actuators is snapped. quite common in au and ba falcons. i had one snap on a wierd angle so it sometimes grabbed and somtimes didnt.

What Phatba said is right for AU onward but not for EL the actuators are different...

What fullyforded said is nowhere near right... The door button only brings on the light and has no play in the smartlock actuator system...

The actuators have a hard power and from what I can gather two wires running to the smartlock module... One for locking and one for unlocking...

I think the actuators have like a "park" section inside them similar to the wiper system... Remember these parts are now 20 years old in their design and have lasted well... You can dismantle the actuator and have a look see if everything is ok inside... It'll be one of the two master locks doing it... Try unplugging one to see if you eliminate it knowing it must be then that lock... Make sure the tracks are still inside it, I've seen them wear out before and need replacing but all in all it is a good system and they last far longer than the dodgy AU onward ones...

I think odds are it'll just need a working replacement one...

I want to replace the door cards soon so wont be difficult for me to check the accuators then.

You were almost right too Tim.
If you lock the car by remote with a door ajar, the horn will blip, and the actuators will cycle to unlock.

With the lock not latched properly, the actuator doesn't have full travel up and down, so it can cycle.
When the courtesy light switch is not open circuit when the door is improperly closed, same can occur.
The courtesy light switches do have a role with the central locking, other than interior lighting.

Is that only on ef el?

On ed that wiring doesn't go anywhere near the Smartlock module... Doesn't even go into the BEM on low series (such as mine)... Smartlock actuators only cycle when the lock isn't double clicked in... Interior light can be on or off with no hassle... Could only be possible on ef and el where BEM and Smartlock are one?
