My 1998 AU falcon has started having issues.
First the cruise control stopped working, then the rear demister & now the intermittent windscreen wipers stopped working. I have replaced the fuses but this did nothing!! Can anyone offer any suggestions that won't cost the earth? |

Did they all stop working at the same time or were they separate events?
Those three systems are not linked in many ways, though all 3 may be controlled by the BCM. Is everything else in the car working? (central door locking etc) |

Cruise control went about 4 weeks ago.
Rear demister about 2 weeks ago then today with the wipers. |

Cruise control is either a problem with a module in the engine bay, or the clock spring or buttons in the wheel have failed...
Demister, I assume no jewel comes on in the dash... Could be a broken switch, failed BEM, blown fuse... Intermittent wipers could be broken combo switch on the column, damaged wiring, failed BEM, failed wiper motor (BEM looks for a park signal, if it sees none it turns the motor off and assumes it's jammed)... Lots of places to be looking... Cheers, Tim

If so that would most likely be a fault in the actually wiper control arm.. Again cheap to pick up second hand. The common problems with the cruise control is either the clock spring behind the steering wheel or the brake switch on the brake pedal being stuffed. Check if the brake lights work when the ignition is on and the brake pedal pushed. If not it's likely the brake light switch on the brake pedal. They are cheap so that is good news. When you saw demister do you mean everything including the fan don't work, or that they all work. But you can't get air up to the windscreen? |

Cheers, Tim Opps.. rear demister.. well, that is easy enough to test, there is a wire on the window leading to the demisting tracks, use a multi meter. (10 bucks at repco or supercheap and and handy to have) and test for power on that wire using the body of the car for earth. (there should be two wires actually, at opposite sites, so make sure you test both otherwise you might be testing for power on the earth line) If there is power and no demister, then either the earth has died or the track in the window has a break. Do all of your other accessories work correctly? radio, interior lights, central door locking etc? |
