cool... no idea then...

I have very little experience with the physical parts of an AU... Just know the wiring that I'm putting into my car...

The globe I may have noticed when I was pulling things apart may have been in the AC button then... I have series 2 looms here... Stacks of difference between the series 1 and series 2 body looms I compared but...

Cheers,
Tim

I was assuming he meant it illuminates with the parkers on? :?

Thats what I meant when I said the ED does... Button lights up so you can see it in the dark...

Now I'm really confused...

Thanks TimmyA, I'll look into it.

Troyman, mine is definitely AUII (Forte), June 2000.

When you press the demister button it does illuminate and also illuminates the demister icon in the cluster. When the button is depressed again, the button stops illuminating and demister icon in cluster is off.

Both buttons i.e. aircon and demister both light up orange when pressed down for power, when pressed again, light goes off.

With the spare centre console panel I have from the wreckers, at the back there are 4 bulb holders, 3 white and one orange. The small orange bulb sits directly behind the aicon button.

Although there is no bulb holder directly behind the demister button, it too was illuminated when depressed. The light emitted is off white colour.

I pulled the control knobs off their respective spots and unclipped the thick clear plastic strip. The aircon and demister buttons cannot be removed unless the thick clear plastic is removed by sliding it from the buttons.

Demister button was definitely illuminated , for the past 2 years until 5 days ago. Even during daytime.

The only other time the centre console illuminates is when the headlight switch is on

Headlight switch is ruled out as the source of illumination

I have attached photos of console, as well as breakdown view of console.

Thick plastic component, rear view where demister and Aircon button resides.

Note one globe sits directly inline with the aircon button.

There is no direct inline bulb where the demister button is located but is adjacent to it. I cannot explain how the light travels from that location directly to the demister button but it does light up inside the demister button.

I have not removed the console from my vehicle as yet as I'd like to get familiar with the console from an identical wrecked Ford AUII.

Maybe the console in my vehicle may not be AUII but of a different model. I believe they are interchangeable.

Cheers.

Here are the bulbs from the console.

Dont have digital micrometers, perhaps someone might know the correct size.

Will be replacing these with LED.

Cheers

Troyman

Thanks for the info on gobes. Hmmm, might install LED's as TimmyA suggested, the LED's might be better and bit brighter.

Thats really strange and very odd, the only time there would be backlight scatter on my console is when the parker /headlight switch is active (on). Console lights don't usually light up unless headlamp is switched on. Switching headlamp on also lights up the instrument panel

I did not have the headlamp switched on but definitely had light emitting from the demister button when depressed and light goes off when button is disengaged. I had light emitting from that button for close to 2 years except few days ago when the light failed to emit.

Maybe the console that's installed on my vehicle may be off a different model.

Cheers

Bondy,

Use a set of alligator leads and clip 12V across those two globes and see if they illuminate...

I'm with Troy... One globe back illuminates the entire face when you turn the parkers on... So you can see at night...

The second globe comes on when you turn the AC on...

The rear demister button doesn't have a provision in the top segment to illuminate like the AC button does to indicate that it is turned on...

Cheers,
Tim

TimmyA and Troyman,

Thanks for that info, I understand what you're saying and would agree if this happened at night when headlights would be needed. It was during daylight and there is no need for headlights. My AUII is not equpped with automatic headlight sensors.

Due to weather and circumstances at that time I could not see through the rear windscreen, hence demister button was pressed during that time. Definetly demister button lit up. That's what I cannot understand why it has been like that and then suddenly stops.

When I use the combination park/headlight switch for night driving, yes the instrument panel / clusters light up and so does the centre console where the aircon and demister button is positioned.

When I am driving in daylight hours I never drive with parkers or headlights on.

Inspecting the centre console from the wrecked AUII I found all of the panel lights are white except for aircon which is amber / orange.

However, on my AUII I have noticed the Aircon has an amber light when depressed to on. I depress the aircon button second time and the amber light goes off.

With the aircon button switched off...I depress the demister button to on and it too emitsa distinct amber light, as the window with the squiggly lines on the button light up... depress a second time and the light goes off.

At this stage I have not taken my centre console off to see if it's a different or been modified.

As stated previously by Troyman and yourself, I would agree if this was at night, but this happened during daylight when running lights are not required. Hence I have an unusual Ford AUII

Cheers

Troyman,

I'll be removing my centre console sometime this week and will let you know what I discover.

Cheers
