So I'm having the standard BEM/Smartlock failure (hitting up near the hand brake kicks it over) when starting the car at the moment.
I've always thought that the BEM was the culprit for this symptom as it housed the smartlock components. Have since had conflicting info that the smartlock module is seperate in the box cars?? Which module should I be looking at in an ED Fairmont?? On a seperate note, would an NCIII high series BEM operate ok in the same car??

yes the smartlock module in eb/ed is seperate to the bem..
the bem lays vertical along side the head unit where the smartlock module is above the handbrake.. from memory the smartlock modules are the same in eb and ed, but bems are different. |

Thanks Troy,
My understanding has always been that the modules die due to bad/dry solder?? Is there any point in getting the smartlock module refurbed, or should I just bin it?? Phil

you can re solder the points, or what I did was cut the starter trigger input and output to the module and join them together, this bypasses the module on the starter circuit.

That certainly sounds easier.....
I'll have a look in Max Ellerys and see if I can work out Pin Outs. If I do that, does the Smartlock jewell still flash on the cluster with the key off??

Yes... and the smartlock still works as normal except for the starter circuit being bypassed
