My EL thermos come on high when the ac comes on...
You tested the four thermo relays for the fans? one or two may not be operating? Next thing to test will be that the computer is sending out the signals to bring the relays on... Cheers, Tim

Always on high is going to kill your alternator... You will notice voltage drop throughout the car and will suffer some engine performance loss...
Band-aids are never an ideal fix... Cheers, Tim

At speed you need no thermo fans... There is enough airflow to keep the car cool normally (except probably mid summer)... Batteries are no good if you can't produce the amps to keep the charge in them...
It'll work... Just an extra 40 amps or more of load on everything is a complete waste... Why don't you run diagnostics on the computer? It checks both fan motors and all relays... Cheers, Tim

Cheers, Tim What's the rating on the EL alternator? 75amps isn't really enough to run thermos and the rest of the car lol. |

They're 100 on EL... Thinking EF may be same... But old mate reckons he has a big one for his doof doof...
40amps on wire continuously causes heat, heat causes resistance increase... A joint of plug or connection has more resistance... It gets hotter... Soon something ends up melted or a car on fire... If he wants to run the fans flat out continuously due to it being too hard to fix the multi speed system he wants one 8awg wire out of the battery, through a 5ag fuse or breaker + a big relay or contactor and into each fan... Big wire, low impedance, less heat, fewer connection points, less chance of setting something alight... The factory wiring is installed with an intended duty cycle... Not all the time... Maybe 50% EF/EL wiring is undersized in many ways IMHO... Cheers, Tim
