Hello all,

I recently did some reading into replacing my Body Electronics Moduel in my '96 XH ute.
I'm going from a low series BEM, to a mid series BEM. Supposedly plug n' play.
I read that the EF BEM is the equivalent and that an EL BEM wouldn't work.
I've also read that the EF is coloured RED while EL is coloured BLUE.
Now I looked through EF's at my local wreckers and only found BLUE BEM's. Does this sound right? I fitted a BLUE BEM to my XH, car runs but I have lost my interior light coming on when opening the door. I am currently programing a second BLUE BEM to see if my original was faulty.
Any help would be appreciated guys.

Regards,
Brutus.

Two plugs into BEM.
In reading that, I think I may not be leaving it to program long enough. I've left it well over 30 minutes, but it says 61 for an XH. So I shall try that and see how it goes.

Brutus.

Hey all,

I went through the 61 minute program of my BEM. All appears to be working but the interior light won't turn on when the doors are opened. The 20 second fade out works, but that is all. I can manually turn on the light, and when fade out starts, if I open a door the interior light will stay on as it should.
Any suggestions? I've tried two different BEM's with the same result.

Regards,
Brutus

The XH light wiring is different than the E Series - switches are put to power, instead of put to ground.

Im not sure if thats taken care of in the BEM's. might be.

Just a thought

Thanks for the input Nigel.

I do wonder though, if that being the case, shouldn't manually turning the light on blow a fuse? Also, how come when opening the door as fade is on, the light works?

I'm still a bit stumped.

Brutus.

The XH door switches are a ground seeking circuit.
Does the interior light work normally with the original BEM plugged in ?

When I removed the original BEM from the car, the interior lights worked as per normal. How would I go about making these work in my XH, since they work opposite?

Beats me - the wiring is pretty much the same - except with the addition of the variable adjuster of the intermittent wipers.

Thanks for your help so far.
The variable intermittent wiper was the reason I originally swapped the BEM's. Would fitting a series 2 XH BEM solve all my issues? I can see this being hard to come by.

Doubt it - the XHII BEMS have a smartlock relearn about the same as EL's, around 60 min, whereas the EF's and XHI's are around 30 min.

The interior lights get constant 12v, the BEM controls the earth side, as well as receiving the earth line for the door switches.

Looks like I'll have to have one or the other then. That's a bit disappointing.
Did XH1 XR6's come with the variable speed intermittent wipers?

Thought the BEM's were black for those models?
