Hi guys, I have two connected issues...both door lock related. Just bought a GLi EL and the locks are a pain. looks like at some point in the past the door lock has been vandalised on the drivers door so it kinda works half the time with the key , but nowhere near enough to rely on it.

Other issue is the key fob.. that will sometimes open / lock the doors , maybe one press in 6 will actually do anything. I've put a new battery in it, slight improvement but not much.

So, I pulled the trim off the door this arvo to have a look at the lock which is cactus... but spent 20 minutes just trying to wrestle it out of the hole in the door - and still no luck...Is there a special way they come out?? Tried rotating it to all sorts of positions but it just does not want to come out....any clues at all?

Secondly, any ideas with the key fob?

Finally, where can I buy a lock and key? Tried Supercrap but no go - again, any ideas?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers SWC!

Do you have any tips for getting the old lock out though? Dunno if the sheetmetal around the hole was maybe damaged a little when it was vandalised - or is there some special ` one way only ' way that they come out?

Also, on the keyfob buttons - I suspected the rubbers as well so I tried using it with the cover off (i.e. just pressing the switches on the circuit board - lights coming on but makes no difference , only works sporadically....

Hello,

The dust cap falls off all the door locks all the time, so it may have not been vandalized. Because it is not sealed, dust will get in. Locks not used in a while tend to stick a bit, you could try some Silicon spray and jiggle the key a bit. Worked on my GF's car when I did that. The remote may be a dodgy switch, they are cheap enough to just replace these days. Good luck with it.

Cheers mate, much appreciated. It WAS vandalised, visible damage to the lock etc. Last night I got the lock out, cleaned it up, squirted it full of WD40 and stuff. Once I had that operating well, put it back in, I could lock the car no worries but not unlock with the key... I disconnected the linkage between the lock and the mechanism and could get it to work by pushing the lever on the actuator about 10 mm further than the linkage could manage..between slight damage to the panel work where the lock sits and slop in the key lock from the vandalising it seems that the linkage was, in effect, about 7 mm too short to actuate the lock properly so I pulled the linkage out, got some steel rod the same diameter and bent up a new linkage that was 7 mm longer but otherwise the same. Put this in and viola! locking and unlocking via the key!
