You can get the flush yourself and do it - undo the low side and high side lines both ends, flush them, then do the condensor. With low gas, most likely any shavings will be caught by the receiver/drier. you still need to locate the leak, and replace the receiver/drier as a matter of course.

took it to an auto place and they said theres still alot of gas in there.. so im not sure if its leaking or not. so would it be worth getting a leak test? and then going from there?

Have it degassed and tell them you want to know how much gas was in the system .
As a guide Approx. 700-800gm would indicate system full no leaks at the moment, get them to flush while your there - probably requires new tx valve usually blocks with metal filings- change compressor and tx valve , replace O rings at all fittings you undo - fit new receiver dryer and O rings just before ready to gas - evacuate and gas.

Look for oil stains around a/c components as a indication of possible leaks -however make sure not caused by engine oil..............

Note: the top pipe will only get cold if ac is working !

^^^ +1. You can wash the TX valve in metho, and check for metal filings in the container bottom.

So tell us in detail what they did. The compressor will be noisy when engaged, and most likely not show any pressure differential (i.e. pumping)on the high/low gaugeset they fit for testing/charging.

If it checks out like Ted said, the compressor is cactus, but there is the possibility of metal shavings. You can save labour by removing the front bumper yourself. You can get the receiver/drier, and cut it open for a look. You can also split the compressor for a look too - watch out for the ball bearings. If the internals are knackered, remove them and put together so you still have the external pulley for the serp belt to run on.

they just looked at it turned on the A/C and heard the compressor and said yep shes still got gas in her, waited 5 mins checked the top A/C hose it wasn't cold or anything and said you need a new TX valve, new compressor, hoses, dry and condenser. they didn't charge me anything. so i assume it might have just been a whole new system quote. as again a different place was was 2200 compared to the 2500 from the other place.

and then i found out today that the firewall behind my clutch is cracking.. i think i need a new car..

They need to at least hook up the high/low gauges, to give you a decent analysis of what's going on.

Just add a reinforcement plate for the clutch.

Why are you suggesting a reinforcement place for an AC Pump?
