Hello,
I've converted the original Ford AUII headlights with a HID Xenon light, Hi/Lo combo light with ballast etc. It was wired up professionally by the techies that work for Autobarn. I've had no problems with these for about 4 years. However, driving home tonight from a mates place. I only have park lights working. Headlights failed to come on. High beam works but only on long range spotties Arrived home no probs , switched off lights and restart engine, turn light switch to headlight position. I see a very quick flicker as it the headlight bulb wanted to light but very quickly went off. Anyone here had a similar issue or might know what the cause could be. I usually do a lot of night driving, especially when fish and prawns are on. |

Check the relays and circuit breaker if it has one.

@93EB
Thanks, I'll check the relays during the day tomorrow. I don't think it as a circuit breaker as such but there could be a fuse or two inline that I could check. |

I checked the fuse this morning, no probs there. Only high beam works for left and right , no low beam for either side. I found the metal encased circuit breaker but don't know how to test it to see if it's faulty. If it's ballast, might be throw away unit. Not the best time for vehicle problems hey! |

I mentioned circuit breaker as my EB uses one. AU on may not use circuit breakers. I would now be looking at low beam relay seeing as the high beams work.

Hi Mad2 and 93EB,
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately that was not the cause, I discovered the entire HID system had melted and fused i.e. both ballasts and a few wires. Must have been a short circuit or something, had the system installed for longer than I first thought, apparently 4 years ago. Up for a new system (again). |

Yeah I know, Technicians at Autobarn wired the system up in the first instance. I had no advance warning or any tell tale signs of impeding headlight failure. Just seems odd that after 4 years that 2 nights ago low beam stopped working, yet high beam and spotties work. |

Maybe the low beam relay fused? Sounds like your low beam got more oomph than needed. There is a circuit breaker in the main fuse/relay box under the bonnet, might be? ER 11N646A. Number 11.

Papa Smurf,
Thanks for that info. I could not test to see if it is the circuit breaker (its incased in metal) and it is Number 11. I ended up taking the car to Autobarn Upgrade Team. The mongrels at Autobarn removed all the wires, H4 Low / High beam gloves and Ballasts from my vehicle. I never did give them authorisation to remove it, just to check only. I was of the understanding the device is suppose to be protected against power surges and short circuits. Autobarn said they ran out of cheap LED's and HID's, only have $299.00 ones in stock. I told them don't worry about it. I'll get another via ebay way cheaper. Cheers |
