ask a friend or at wreckers if they have BEM you can use for testing without programming - plug in,central locking should work from locks/dash button without programming remotes or keys to vehicle - did locksmith just copy key or did he program to vehicle - no offense but did you test fuses with meter while pulled out of holders or in ?

Okay I will do that. Locksmith programmed 2 keys to car. I checked resistance while fuses were in the holder and a few I checked while out of socket to be sure. Thanks for you help so far

buy a cheap test light or make with a globe and solder two wires on -
test fuses with one end earthed other end across each end of fuse remember some are battery feed others are accessory or ignition or light feed - because multimeter across plugged fuses can show resistance and voltage when blown by back feeding thru other circuits -or test by remove test and refit with meter.. |

Well I don't think it is a fuse because the exact same thing happened a few days ago but I'll give that a go, thanks

Checked all fuses with the test light and all good. No central locking and no demister light on dash anymore so I'm certain it's BEM

I would say definitely a bem failure

What makes you think that? Because that's what I think too. How would I overcome the BEM failure?

the bem (body electrics module} controls most of the body electrics and security.
when there is more than one thing that's controlled buy the bem and they stoped working around same time as the engine stopped, I would say its bem.. its electronic, electronic s**t rails from time to time.. |

So re solder connections or replace? What will I need reprogrammed to the new BEM? And how will i do it?

I am a d**k. There was a loose plug to BEM, plug it in and central locking and demister work fine now. Still no start

Now because you've plugged it back in you'll probably need the security done on it again...
When you do the security it programs everything to each other... All the keys, the BEM and the PCM are all told to behave and communicate at the same time... If you had the BEM unplugged then when all mate did the security it probably buggered up because there was no BEM... Do you get a fast flashing smartshield jewel now with the key on? Cheers, Tim

No flashing it just stays lit when ignition is on

Has light now changed from flashing to staying on with ignition on ?
IF the locksmith programmed keys to BEM correctly ? (minimum 2 keys) and actually programmed them to the BEM not just copied keys esspecially if BEM was partially disconnected, you will now need to program the BEM to the PCM(engine computer) with a scan tool as this link is lost when you program keys, before it will start as Tim has said... Note- non genuin keys can cause operation & programming issues sometimes - rear demist switch is used to program remote controls only and is a seperate item to programming keys to BEM and BEM to PCM....and this is still assuming thier is no fault with any of these components, wiring etc. see if local auto elect can link systems.. |

Light changed from flashing to solid lit when locksmith programmed keys and he programmed not cut them. Rear demister trick doesn't make locks cycle

Rear demister trick doesn't make locks cycle cutting of keys is a different part of keys compared to programming, what I am curious about is if he programmed the keys to the car or if he just copied the programming from the key itself as a lot of locksmiths can do? - try closing doors and make sure ignition is in accessory position not ignition position then press rear demist switch 3 times locks should cycle within 5 seconds or so....if not BEM ....have a good christmas anyway...... |
