These headlights are known to suffer from hazed and yellowed lenses.
The reflectors also start to peel. If your headlights are old, get yourself a new set before you get the HID kit. You might be surprised on the improvement. When it comes to globes, stick with brand names (Narva, Osram, Hella). And don't bother with the "arctic blue" type globes, they look nice but the blue coating actually absorbs some of the output. Use the 'plus' type globes (Plus50, Plus80, etc.) |

Ok, but my head lights are not turning yellow yet but they are white and clear.
So how long is it before the turn yellow? Also does anyone here have HIDS in there Ford? If so could i see some pics please? Thanks |

If they are clear and white, then it's a good start.
Have a look through the lens and see if the reflector still looks shiny chrome, or cracked and peeling. If both of these things are good, then you should probably just get some better globes. And of course, make sure they are aimed correctly. |

{USERNAME} wrote: I think a few of you are confused. On EF and EL models, the globes used are as follows. Falcon/Futura: H1 low beam, and H3 high beam Fairmont/Fairlane: H4 low beam, and H3 high beam. Fitting a Hi/lo kit to a Falcon will not be possible. You would only use a H1 kit. On a Falcon the low beam stays on when you flick to high beam. On a Fairmont the low beam filament of the H4 globe turns off when you flick to high and the high beam filament turns on. But, and this is a big 'but'.... Please don't do it. HID in EF/EL headlights has to be the worst possible combination for glare to other drivers on the road. If you are dead set on it, then at least get new headlights, or get your lenses professionally restored. You will benefit from much more light on the road, and the glare put out from them will be more tolerable for other drivers. Or better yet, just don't do it. so only on the EF/L models did they use "single" globes?? .. H4 IS a double filament globe NOT a single filament - weird?? |

That's right, Falcon had H1 single filament globes for the low beam, only Fairmont and Fairlane had H4 double filament globes.

my EB had a low only kit. But had an XR front with the wiring mod done so on high beams all 4 stay on.
My EA Ghia daily is getting a H4 hi/lo kit. So yes, on most cars, the low beam stays on when flicked to high beam, for more light and coverage

that's why earlier I said use a 35w kit. Just because they're 35w doesn't mean they aren't bright.
Probably go 6000k colour temperature too

Yeah as 93EB has said (and recently informed myself) 55w is way too bright!
I've recently installed some 35w 3200K HIDs in my EB and they're pretty bright as it is, have to angle them down heaps... One day I may install some 55w HIDs into my high beams.

Yeah but they suck as high beams because they need to warm up to full brightness. Lol. And yes mine are angled down heaps as well.

That's a good point actually, I never thought about that lol They'd be pretty useless as high beams unless you can constantly have them on...
