Good Afternoon,

I have installed some original XR6 lights in my XG some time ago and have worked out that when I have my high beams on my low beams are turning off. From what i understand when the high beams are flicked on, both low and high beams should be on. When I pull the indicator stalk forward then both high and low beams with work.

Is this likely to be an issue with an relay, off not what else could it be?

Regards
Dan

That is normal. In the original lights when you flick to high beam the low beam filament of the H4 globe turns off and only the high beam filament is lit. with the XR lights, there is no high beam filament in the low beam so it just turns off.

You need to add some wiring that will keep the low beam relay active when you flick to high beam.

So a wire from the switch side of the high beam relay to the switch side of the low beam relay?

Yep, but with a diode also, otherwise the low beam will turn on the high beam as well.

As it's a low power circuit, you could probably get away with just about any, but I tend to go for the 1N4004 as it's the most common I seem find in electronic items that I tear apart for parts.

Any finally, would you happen to know which is the switching wire on the relays off the top of your head?

No idea sorry. I've never worked with an XG. I had to do this with my XF when I had XR lights, but the wire colours probably changed.

You'd need to look over the wiring diagrams for the XG to be sure.

The early E-series XR's had wiring provision for this issue, and you just needed a special plug-in diode. XG may be similar to this.
EF/L have the provision also but a little different to the EB/D. On these you need to swap the low beam relay with a blue 5-pin one.
