Hey, I find that the light output/spread in my EF/EL Bitsa Fairmont just isn't good enough. I've put phillips crystal vision globes in there and it didn't help much. I'm getting decent power to the lights, and they're adjusted properley. The actual headlight assemblies are brand new non genuine though. Are there any globes better than the crystal visions? I don't mind adding some extra non standard driving lights if I have to, what do people reckon?

Have you considered doing a HID conversion? The light output is the best available.

I have sort of thought about that, but I'm not sure that it's legal, and I would like my car to remain legal, and also I don't really like the look of HID lights, it might be something I consider though. Cheers, Gab |

you complained of s**t light output, HIDs are the best really. Hence why all the new fancy s**t is going to it. My EA has a H4 hi/lo HID kit, it's amazing

I was wondering the same thing not that long ago, I also concluded that HID's would be the best. Once I found out that they were illegal I thought it's not really worth it for me, and I have since decided to settle with just a globe upgrade to Phillips X-Treme Vision +100% Globes.
I may later decided to add some extra lighting while maintaining my streamline look im going for. May be able to customise the EL cornering lights to have a higher light output and wire them up as driving lights perhaps? |

Me too, it's something I hope to do one day. I've never owned a pair of the cornering lights so i'm unsure of what would be required, but it may be possible to use the reflector out of an actual set of driving lights and somehow fit the oddly shaped cornering light lenses to the reflector?
That is of course assuming the reflectors in the cornering lights aren't suitable to be used as driving lights? |

they are cornering lamps, they shine sideways, towards the curb

i'm just stating the facts. If you wanna pull one to bits and cut s**t and screw around to make one point forward, go ahead

The best globes I found, before doing a HID projector retrofit, were the 'plus' bulbs. I think I got Plus50 at the time.
The crystal vision, and similar, look good but actually put out less light due to the blue filter coating on the bulb. And the cornering lamps will never be any good for forward lighting, unless you're doing 3km/h then they might help you read curb street numbers better. |

Hi,
Put in a twin-light conversion, ( not XR ) then you can run better globes on high without stuffing the lights. Wont be cheap, but you will have good lights that will keep working. The cornering lights are a Fog type, and wont send any light far up the road. Regards 96ELGli

Regards 96ELGli Unfortunately, I don't like the look of these. The only way I'd consider going down that path would be a Genuine XR front because I reckon they look tough as. |

Hi,
An XR front would be nice, but many parts are no longer available and it is quite a big job. It would also make the car more of a target for thieves. The Twinlight will give you good legal lights, that will be able to be aimed properly. If you paint the housing silver metallic it will look a bit like the normal headlight. Do you want to see where you are going or would you prefer it to look nice ? Regards 96ELGli
