Greetings all,
A few days ago i finished my conversion (pics and thread to come soon) Many thanks to SWC for his patience with all my dumb questions. And to pretty much the rest of you for all your detailed threads about conversions that i was able to use for the process. But today i have a new challenge until i can scrap the cash together for some bigger wheels so i don't get defected around the corner.. Electrical problems. My symptoms are as follows: Drivers side window wont go up, Won't even make a noise (Rest of them go up fine) Dash is pretty dim and the switch near headlights does nothing Aerial switch does not work Central locking sort of works.. when i press lock button it goes to lock then unlocks and then proceeds to make the horn noise as if a door is open. Also the button to lock/unlock all doors near the power window switches does nothing. It actually has been doing this prior to the conversion, and i was experiencing some fun and games with the interior lights & horn until i switched out the clock spring. But I still have these issues Now my question is this: Iv pulled the BCM/BEM and had a poke around inside.. I can see one of the resisters is burnt out (black marks and all) But the only resisters i have on me are 250 Ohms 1% and according to my research when i calculated the colors on the resister that is inside the BEM now they are 110 Ohms 1% Iv only just started really getting this in-depth with electrical (playing with an arduino robot i made) but can i use these resisters or would i have to go buy some matching ones? Also.. i just tested the resister on the BEM with my multimeter and resistance reads 1.0 on the burnt one.. I get the same reading from other resistors with the same color code so it sounds like actually the resistor is fine? in which case.. I have nfi. Yes i could just go buy another BEM when i have the cash but i have a lot of time on my hands at the moment until then. |

Really? even though the rest of the car functions fine?
I actually already had checked the battery voltage and left that part out because i already know the battery is rooted. Just purely because a)It's old and came off the EL Futura i had and b)It had been sitting a fair while when i was off organizing a motor, doing modifications to motor to fit, and the many breaks in between taken for work commitments or I was just too busy. Battery voltage from memory checked out at about 12v (i think from memory its meant to be 14?) Basically i can start the car (i had been trying to keep the battery on my work bench on charger when all the above was going on) i can drive it around.. But if i turn it off i will not be able to kick it over again. So battery is pending replacement, I was just getting wheels out of the way first. Also, To add another spanner to the works.. (and don't quote me on this I'm going by memory now) I had used my brother in-laws good battery to get the car home in the first place and it had the same symptoms. |

Check you earth to the chassis and alo to the engine block.

Forgive me, During the conversion i did not take photos like i should of and for the most part pulled it apart and put it back together based on roughly how i remembered it being. So glad you brought this up actually because i only have the 1 earth cable from battery to engine mount (if your not including the other one with the fuses inside it). I know there was another cable attached at the mount.. I just don't know where that went.. And since the car worked i figured not important. I had even prepared for this day and brought about a meter or cable and some ends for the time where i figure out it was important. Please don't hit me. |

Alritey I'll go correct that now.
So you don't think the BEM having burn marks on it is relevant? Maybe my battery is still good? It does have one of those 'health' indicators.. which looks all black to me... |

Any burn marks on the BCM is not good.
It may be making contact on and off causing the burn mark. |

Okay, Well sorted the earth lead from chassis to motor. The one i connectors i brought were too small so i did some hunting and found the one that came off the old motor and used that.. Should be a good earth now.
I'm guessing your thinking the battery voltage should be correct now? I haven't tested it yet since i still have the BEM/BCM out in pieces. Speaking of which.. If the pictures work..
