Not sure if this is the right section of the forum.
My vehicle is Ford AUII (Forte) Year 2000. June build. I've experienced a problem with the front passenger window switch 4 days ago. I used the switch to lower the window but could not raise it up. I parked the vehicle with the window down hopeful no one would be tempted to steal anything from the vehicle. I was fortunate nothing was. It was at night. I drove home later that night and next day removed the door panelling to gain access to the window to see if I could manually move it up....could not budge. The drivers side door has two switches, one controls the drivers window and the other the passenger side window...this failed to work when depressed. I removed the switches and tested on passengers, none of them worked, yet one of them worked for the drivers side only. I pulled the other switch apart, gave it a clean, reassembled the switch, reconnected to the wiring harness...pressed rocker switch, window went down but not back up. I then found another drivers side door switch and connected one of them to the passenger's side, window went back up. Has anyone else experienced this problem and what was the cause? I'm wondering if its the switch that's become faulty ( don't know how) or if its a problem elsewhere. I look forward to any suggestions. Cheers, Peter |

with other half's AU2 ... has front pwr windows & yes they have played up ...
swapped & cleaned drivers switch & passengers. thankfully they are currently working. if you have cleaned the switches properly you may need to check wiring/window motor? |

Mad2,
I only cleaned the passenger's side switch with cotton bud stick to get rid off dust and silicon grease. Maybe I should soak the switch in Wax and Grease remover. I have replaced the window motor as a complete unit about 6 months ago. Wiring is ok, and works with a switch from double set but wont work with existing unit...weird it is. |

My ute does the same thing, both sides play up. The person I bought the car from gave me a box of spares with what I assume are the original switches. So I'm onto my second set:)
The kids playing with them all the time doesn't help.

Cotton buds and metho. Ok, I'll give that a go. I tried to install another double switch in the drivers door to see if they might work. Big mistake, with the key in ignition turned on the cars computer system went into cycling mode with some weird buzzing noise emanating from under the dash. Quickly turned ignition key to off and disconnected the other double switch, noise stopped. Now I need to track down that troublesome passenger door switch again. ******************************************************************************** @ Bogged At least you managed to get spare switches at the time hey! |

don't 'drown' the contacts as you only want to clean them & let dry. so use one with metho 1st then clean bud to clean up. be careful of switches when pulling apart as you don't want to lose anything

No worries, I've got an air compressor to blow dry them. I've pulled them apart before, two plastic bits, two springs sit inside the plastic, and two sets of metal contacts where the plastic contacts with them. I wonder if the actual plastic themselves have weared out. Did you put silicon grease back in for lube or reassembled dry? |

clean passenger side switch as well as drivers side as the circuit requires both working to operate-
if moving or fixed contacts have black surface from arcing scrape off with a small screwdriver or similar - use silicon grease if you have some - check to verify contacts haven't sunk into housing (happens occasionally) |

Thanks to all those that assisted.
I disassembled the passenger side switch, cleaned all surfaces with metho using cotton bud stick, dried off using air compressor, Reassembled, installed, used Drivers side switch to operate passenger front window, good as gold. Goes down as well as up. Might be worthwhile to disassemble drivers side switches and do same. Cheers, Bondy |

While we're on the topic of doors, my central locking stopped working a while ago, I changed the battery in the "clicker" but no go. Where is the "receiver" in an XR8 ute (so I can check it out) and is this a common fault?

How old is that "clicker", that "clicker" you refer to is that the remote key?
They do wear out, check to make sure your battery in the remote is sitting correctly in the cradle. The other thing that goes is the buttons. Get some cardboard abut as thick as pkt of cornflakes carton, then trim to size and place under the plastic / rubber pad then place cover over pad and try again. Worked for me on mine. |

Cheers, i would say that the battery clip or buttons are stuffed if ya changed the battery - have a few AU remotes here with broken battery clips. "reciever" is either in the bem or ecu [not sure which] |
