hi im using a davies craig thermo switch with the two relays with ef fans the ones that have the 2 orange wires i followed the directions right but the car still overheated my question is do both fans have to be running or just one and do i need to add other relay when the tech document says two but the instructions say 3 i did how ever noticed that since using the a/c the temp came done
the car is a 1993 ford fairlane nc v8 ps only did it today when it was hot but other days when its cooler does not even reach half way mark also which way do the fans ment to spin anti clockwise or clockwise cheers |

No idea about the davis craig set up... But the original Ford stuff is:
EF has a single winding motor and a double winding motor... You need 4 relays to fully control them and get 3 speeds... EL has two single winding motors and uses 3 relays to get 2 speeds (this is more common, used also on AU and BA/BF (til the went to a single fan)) Does the davis craig allow you to get 2 speeds or only one? Can you post the instructions so we can explain what they're saying and where you may have gone wrong... The fans spin which ever way pulls the air from the bumper to the motor... No point in trying to push air in reverse when you driving and it's trying to enter the front of the car... Cheers, Tim

Hello,
The 3 relays give 2 fan speeds. This is controlled by the ECU, ( 2 signals ) fans on and high. Both fans run together, series for low and parallel for high. It means on low they get 6 volts and 12 volts on high. If you run 2 relays, I would suggest one from the thermo switch, and the other from the AC so when the compressor is running the fan is on. You can also have an over-ride switch in case of any faults, but make sure you dont power the AC compressor with it.
