I have a BA and have started upgrading my stereo except now I am getting close to the limits of the alternator and have read that just getting a second battery wont help as it wont be able to charge properly. Anyway, my question is, where can I get an alternator that will fit that can output about 220 amps or will I have to buy one and have an adapter plate made up. I am also looking for a second battery for it. I was looking at the Kenetic KHC3800, but if you have any suggestions I am all ears.
Thanks Zach |

What amp alternator do you have? I know they are easily available as 110amp, 120amp and 130amp.

just the stock market for a ba2 which I think is 110. but by my calculations not even the 130 would suffice as I am looking at about 3 kW for just the amps. then there is the 80 or so watts for the car electrics plus another 50 or so for After market stuff.

You could contact your Auto Elec and talk to them about reworking your alternator for a higher Amperage output. Not sure how easy this would be or the cost but worth an ask. I do know that some Emergency Vehicles (ie Police) were fitted with 200 odd amp alternators for all the gear they carried. Not sure how you would get your hands on one or how easy they would be to fit.
Denso do high output alternators, maybe contact them. http://www.denso.com.au/content/view/full/921 http://www.denso.com.au/DENSO-Australia There is this unit to suit a V6 Mustang http://www.amazon.com/ALTERNATOR-HIGH-O ... B008R29OA0 |

Thanks. They look promising and certainly better than trying to organise one from the states.

Contact these guys, if you rewind a stator in an alternator for higher output, you can lose a lot of amperage generated at idle/low engine RPM. Listed for American cars, but I'm sure they can do something if you send them a sample, send over some s**t dead alternator you could pick up for free from an auto elec and have them design you something. |
