Hey 96ELGli,
Thanks for your time but i had already attempted cleaning it. Actually i used electrical cleaner spray in this occasion but to be honest the contacts looked pretty good to me. Very little burnt/black looking stuff. I also went out yesterday and got some silicone spray for the windows. Because iv done a regulator before and that was a crappy job haha. |

Hello,
My point is you can be a little adventurous in cleaning it. As a replacement fixed it, it should be the switch. Have a look at the connections to the harness, these could also be the cause. A part you dont depend on is a good place to experiment with and learn.

ah I get what you're saying. While i normally would not replace a part without going through any steps i could to fix it or at least find out the reason for failure. Time is not on my side at the moment as I'm getting VERY close to the lane being road ready. And the switch was thrown out as soon as i saw the new one worked.
I spent most of my free time playing with electronics. Currently an arduino robot and a raspberry pi sunrise alarm in the works. Ooh.. and then there is the finished product that sits where my stereo use to go in the dash.. But I'm not ready to reveal that just yet |

Hello,
The contact point is very small, they work fine with the black stuff cleaned off. I did my door switch, used a pencil rubber then an alcohol swab. After I lubed the rubber, you could hear the speed difference. Less load, less current to run it so the switch will last. You need to remove the crap, spraying in contact cleaner is an easy way which may not work. Do it once and do it right, that is why I own a Ford !
