Well my EF GLi was doing a bad 14.2L/100km and it p****d me off because petrol prices were so high.
I noticed that my engine would only heat up to a needle width below the NORMAL bracket. When i drove to work in the morning it wouldnt get higher than the top of the C. So i went out, got a new thermostat, seal and some brown sealant s**t. I replaced my old thermostat (i thought it was a 82°) with a 91° that the guy at autopro said that the one i get from him would be the stock ones. So last night replaced it, reset the trip computer and put $25 in. Now i drove through the city and i had a sweet no stopping run and its sitting on 12's flat. its just amazing how much difference it makes to fuel economy when you have the right thermostat in. So note to all that 82° thermostats arent too great for fuel economy.

ive got a real cold thermostat in my el and the fuel economy did not change on a trip it would stay at 8.2/100ks around town it was 9/100ks

yep me too. bout 17l/100km. sounds oh so good when you hit the loud pedal though.

mine witha turbo on teh side sits at 13.5l to 100
the nl use to sit at around 10/100

you have to compare ure ave L per 100 k's to ure ave km/h as well the higher ure ave km/h id suspect the lower your ave L/100km
mines aroudn 12.9 L/100k at an ave of 39km/h which is pretty good |

i think that depends on how heavy your right foot is 
i've just switched to the 98 octane (we've only just got it in tassie!!) and i've noticed an increase in km's/tank. haven't worked out the figures yet but it's almost time to fill up again! my temp guage nomally sits at the L of the word normal. got a thermostat sitting round somewhere, dunno what it is though!

yeah my average speed is about 34-38km.
I have use 98ron every now and then because it cleans the motor out but sometimes i find i get a few more kms and other times i dont. But now its not in warm up mode i can have another look. For the next 2 weeks ill fill up with one each week and see what happens. Some servos here i suspect that its the same stuff IMO.

last tank i got 10.8 around town and a bit of freeway driving it made me very happy its been along time since i got that even on a trip

Thats cause you got a two stroke dude. 
I get 11.2 with an average speed of 62 or something. When I first bought the car it had a f**k thermostat, and struggled to get anything under 15 cause it wasnt warming up. So yeah, cooler not better. You have to get it out of cold enrichment

Does your temp neddle cycle rather fast from its max temp down to min and back up??
Mine does and I wonder if its normal. |
