can anyone tell me if having no BCM wired to the ECU will stop the OBD2 from working? if this is the case, would it be possible to fit the BCM without the AU ignition barrel etc and still have it function? i don't need it to start the car or operate anything in the car, just need it so the ECU can talk to it if its required for the OBD2 to operate through the port. can anyone else add to this? what is required exactly for the ODB2 system to function...

Hey man,
I wouldn't think so... When I scan mine the pcm and bem come up as two completely separate modules... It finds the pcm before it finds the bem... Then you need to scan each module separately for dtcs... Are you sure it's not your scan tool just not talking to the car? Mine has an auto select and a manual set up mode and if you choose the auto scan it cracks up and won't talk because the cars have a weird protocol seemingly... Cheers, Tim

im still not sure what the problem is to be honest, but i do have a friend off another forum who has the same scanner and an AU3 and it works fine.
the scanner seems to connect to the ECU then doesn't talk to the OBD side, i'll try it out again later, really need to know whats going on in the cars head lol.

Can you try your scanner on a another au? Maybe it's just your scanner?
As long as you had the required wires run to the odb2 plug it should work... Cheers, Tim

Im sure this topic is dead, but for what its worth :
ForScan (Ford Scanning Tool) actually does scan the AU Falcon, at least back to the AU 1.5. I scanned the XR8 before I stripped it, and am fully intending to have an active OBD2 port in the BMW when its ready to go. ForScan works with ELM style devices |

What drivers did you install on your PC? I have a win 8 tablet/PC and installed few drivers off the internet, still didn't find the driver in "device manager" nor did ForScan pick up anything?

The only device you should see with an ELM is a serial port - either a USB one, Bluetooth one, Serial one (or the Wifi one.. not sure how that one looks). until you can see the serial port, it isnt going to work

I have a 2000 AU2 Fairmont that I'm going to try to connect to.
From what I have read, it should be compatible with the ALDL cables? I know the Holden's VR VS VT VX VY all use ALDL. For them it's an ODB1 that jus the OBD2 connector on it. I'm thinking the AU's are the same but have no idea yet. Anyway, I have bought an ALDL cable and Toad so as soon as they arrive im going to see what I pick up. If it doesn't work ill try an elm with toad and see what comes up. Im really only going by this page http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/supp ... pport-list then there is this but its still not really clearing things up for me. http://www.tiperformance.com.au/library/diy-guides/ |

For au Ford use forscan on a laptop and your choice of Bluetooth, WiFi or usb elm 327 adapter into the diagnostics port on the drivers side in the fuse box. It give all dtc, run tests, etc.

I know forscan doesn't like to work on Windows 8.1 but it works well with win 7. As far as forscan it can log a load of parameters, clear dtc's, run diagnostic test on All the components of the car.
