have been reading in the forum here about fuel smells in the car, I have 94 DC LTD v8 i have a fuel smell only in the car when i switch the air con on,its not there any other time. I don't know if this could be the issue but on the fuel rail there is a (for a better word solenoid) that is vacuum operated. I was wondering if that was faulty could fuel vapors pass up through the diaphragm and go into the vacuum line and somehow end up inside the cabin. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Near the airbox, there is a solenoid (i think it's one you are describing), it connects into the vacuum line for the fuel system, and lots of e-series cars have them set backwards. There will be an arrow on the black plastic above the silver metal body of the solenoid. That arrow needs to face the fuel vapour canister (front of car).
