does anyone have any experience in fitting adjustable fuel pressure regs to the AU 5 litre like the kirbin, etc.

are they necessary for slightly modded engines and what is the deal with them?

Talking about rising rate fuel pressure regulators?
If so, theyre for boosted applications (supercharged or turbo) AFAIK. As for fitting not that hard at all. Just gott be put in the return line from the fuel rail and mounted somewhere.

Ok, yeah, I'm with you now. One so you can adjust it to set of constant level of pressure, as oposed to a rising rate, which auto adjusts with the level of boost.
I doubt you'd need to change the fuel pressure level unless your quiet far from stock, or running different injectors and needing the different pressure to run with them - remember you'll also need a high pressure fuel pump to maintain the pressure.

does anyone know the PN# for the AU 5.0L one. would it be for the 86-93 mustang or the '94/'95 mustang?

I've got a Kirban AFPR (86-93 Mustang) on my AU XR8 ute. It bolts straight onto the fuel rail.

The fuel pressure guage and guage fitting cost me more than the AFPR...lol.

I used to drop the fuel pressure in the staging lanes just before a race to try and lean out the air to fuel ratio at WOT.

P.S. be careful with the terms FMU (fuel management unit), and AFPR (adjustable fuel pressure regulator). They are different things...

Generally with a stock or mild engine, these things are used for leaning off the mixture at WOT (as all the 5.0's tend to be rich as s**t at WOT) to squeez a couple more hp out. an alternative to getting a chip or a/m ecu.

Or alternatively if the motor is worked, pushing the limits of the injectors fitted the pressure is increased so that you dont lean out at WOT. An alternative to buying bigger injectors.

ive been thinkin of doin the same thing , but realy the only benefit is when EECis in open loop at WOT by leaning or richening AFR coz in normal driving the computer will still maintain the same AFR as the o2 sensors tell it by increasing or decreasing the injector pulse width if fuel pressure is altered .....would probably be of more benefit if custom tuned with a flash tuner or sim IMO......your call?

thanks guys.

i do have a SCT (capa) tune, but thought that an AFPR will give better tuning range, as i believe a tune is limited in regards to AFR, especially with EEC-V.

I think it made a bit of difference at the track.

I've always reset it back to std pressure for normal street driving though. I would think the fuel trims would cancel out any fuel pressure tuning after not too long.

Unfortunately my wideband O2 sensor was playing up on the day I was mucking around with fuel pressures at the track (i think batt voltage was too low to heat the sensor while idleing through the staging lanes), so I dont know what affect it may have had on WOT AFR....

My PB (14.15 @ 98.7mph) was run with fuel pressure reduced from 39psi to 32psi in the staging lanes immediately before the run.

If you've already got a CAPA Flash Tuner, then there is really no need for an AFPR.
