EMS stinger cost $1195 includes software looms, and link cable

pro's...real time tunning, user definable and independent fuel/spark maps 40x21, 4 coil drivers, 4 injector drivers, 4 PWM/digital out puts, anti lag,
dual RPM limit, nitrous control, programable sensor calibrations,
data logging, auto tune, 12 months warranty, password protection
comes with base maps for I6 and V8

cons.. no traction or launch controll, 6 injector/coil out puts would be nice,
no stepper motor out puts, only one extra input..

Just checked out the new software.

WOW! they have really improved! Looks like an excellent option now. Really impressed with the real time tuning and user selectable RPM and Load sites. Also autotune reads a wide band lambda directly! Saves $400 for seperate lambda controller. + a free basemap.

Wait for the full review.....

You mean thre was a time when they didn't have closed loop mode? Yikes. Way to catch up with 35 year old technology.

For the record I have found that with closed loop in cars with man sized cam they blow a lot of intake out the exhaust down low which messes with the o2 sensor, which in turn teaches the ecu a bad tune.
That is why i tend to turn it off these days.

Digging up an oldie but a goodie. I've read and searched plenty on chips, but I am still confused as to what half the s**t does.

Can someone tell me which might best suit my application and best value for money (what it will cost fully installed and tuned) out of:
EMS Stinger
Wolf3D Plus
Unichip

And is it hard to find places to tune one over the other etc?

ED 4.0L T5, cam, exhaust blah blah.

I'm not an expert by far, but I would have to say closed loop is a good thing. When I got my car back from been tuned (wolf3d) it was running between 13-1 to 13.8-1 at cruise and light acceleration. I leaned it off around 15.5-1 at those cruise and light acceleration zones and found that fuel economy didn’t rally change. Just as an experiment I turned on closed loop with the wolf 3d reading from a narrowband sensor, and I had a independent wide band sensor in the tail pipe, With Closed loop turned on the Wolf 3D brought the fueling to spot on 14.7 give or take .1, and fuel economy has increased quite a bit.

Closed loop is not enabled over a certain load point and RPM so it not been used when I'm into it, but just cruising around it has "appeared" to help quite a bit. After I’ve run through a few full tanks of fuel to compare each different map I’ll post the average different

In short I would say add Closed Loop mode to the shopping list. There is a reason why the all the factor ECU have it..

Cheers

Im not sure on how other ECUs externally communicate to its software, but the EMS8860 uses Serial and Parallel ports, something thats been outdated for years.
It should really be USB.

Most new laptops dont even have these connections, so you'd a USB to Serial converter, which will have no guarantee on compatibility, or an older laptop.
