Is there any way to run sequential injection and ignition from an aftermarket ECU on an EL engine?
I have the EL hybrid engine with dizzy and such. I dont think there is any cam sensor is there? If I am going turbo is there any benefits of going sequential injection and ignition? |

Buy the right ECU and you can. You will need a cam sensor, a crank sensor, some coil ignitors and you could run coil on plug. I had an EMS 8860 that ran full sequential injection and ignition, and i imagine Wolf offer the same deal. I know motec do, but be prepared to pay for the pleasure. Most top line aftermarket ECU's should be able to do it.

I already have an ECU that does full sequential for both injection and ignition.
Its a Perfect Power XMS4C. Its a fair bit cheaper than the others and it has lots of good features. In its manual it says "do not try and fit your own cam sensor" hence the question of can i run sequential if my engine currently does not have cam sensor? Im presuming no so...can i fit one in in any way? I like the idea of sequential and coil on plug. |

Fit an ef timing cover and ef cam and crank sensors.
Or put an au motor in it. Benefits will not be that great though. |

So leave it set up as is if theres no gains to be had?
Or being a hybrid motor could i go up to AU items instead of back to EF? |

Is a crank sensor on the el engines a magnetic or hall effect sensor?

I have done a lot more research and reading.
If I fit the EF/AU1 cam angle sensor (or synchroniser its also called) into the spot where the dizzy used to go and hook it up I should be able to run sequential injection and ignition. I have to also use a crank angle sensor and trigger wheel from EF or AU1. Probably just swap over the whole balancer with trigger wheel attached. Then from there I can set it all up to work coil on plug. Ive seen someone use LS1 coils. Haltech sell ones with built in igniters. http://www.haltech.com/store/index.php/ ... nitor.html Can someone confirm that these can be run straight from the ECU with out any other amplifiers? I think thats what the built in bit means. Is there anywhere to get them cheaper or cheaper alternatives? Thanks for any advice |

I am going to leave the original EEC to run the air con, the auto trans and the speed sensitive power steering.
I will leave all power and ground wires hooked up and all the wires that are directly associated with those three things. Some of the sensors like the VSS for power steering and trans oil temp are obviously used by those systems but what about other sensors? ie. does air con need engine temp or air temp? or auto trans need TPS or RPM? Looking from the wiring diagrams in my workshop manual they arent used by them but just wondering if anyone knows any different? Thanks for any help guys |

You could put in the EF crank angle sensor and maybe modify the distributor by cutting off all teeth except one off the trigger wheel so that then it becomes a cam sensor and maybe you could then retain the dizzy setup.
I am quite sure that is do able. You would look into the EF cam angle sensor to see how it is timed and try and copy that.

I found out a bit more recently and yes its similar to what you said turbotrana.
Use EF/AU1 harmonic balancer with trigger wheel, crank sensor and cam sensor (replaces dizzy). Can then run something like LS1 coils with built-in ignitor.. |

Why not run a full AU loom, ECU, BEM etc etc
Same result less money... Then buy a flash tuner.......
