I purchased a BA XT with the NA 6-cylinder engine that features stage 2 crow cams and a full exhaust system. Since it came from a dealer via eBay sale there was little info about the car other than it had had its ECU 'tuned' and was making something like 230hp at the treads.
Car drives fine, but idle is lumpy. Also, worst of all, it gets less than ideal economy in city driving. Given I don't care about performance and prefer ecomony as it is a work car I was thinking of two possible cheap fixes. No1: Can I simply swap the tuned ECU for a stock one purchased from a wrecker to return the car to a stock tune, and if so will this run fine on stage 2 crow cams? No:2 If not then would the cheapest solution be to buy a stock BA engine and ECU from a wrecker and thenm sell my engine/ECU as a package set? Thanks for answers. You could start by returning the cams to standard, following that the ECU could be reflashed to standard or replaced. If replaced you will need Fords assistance to match it to the car.

I'm guessing he is trying to do is cheap as possible, this is fordmods afterall.
But that said, Go and get a tune done, maybe $1400ish and it will configured correctly to the car.

2 choices, fit std cams ans get the ecu re flshed to std tune, or get it re tuned..
there is always a comprimise with performance, you get performance but will loose some economy... |

There's no sense in paying $1400 to retune the car.
There's also no $$ sense in putting stock cams in, then paying to retune the car. That would cost well in excess of $2500 and the fuel saving simply isn't worth the headache. I can get a stock ECU and engine INSTALLED for $850 drive away, and still have my existing engine/ECU to sell to someone who would want this package. Seems like the smartest route and ultimately would be a zero cost option after I sell the current engine. |

why buy the car in the first place?? if you knew it had a tune and cams you should know its not going to idle 100% or be economical..
if your after economy, sorry to say maybe you shouldnt have brought a falcon.. |

If you are capable with a spanner then stock cams would be no more than $100 and a ECU on ebay $30 and a train from ford $160 works out less than $850....Then sell your cam and ECU and you may come out even.

As stated, car was bought on eBay (and interstate) but the seller did not mention specifics other than the car was great and behaved well. This combination is probably attractive to many forum members, but I was simply prefer something tamer than I got. That's all. Seems selling this engine/ECU combo and replacing it with a stock one is the logical solution. |

Welcome to our happy little home and may your stay be enjoyable. Now that we have got the rose coloured glasses bit out of the way , why the hell did you buy a car taking just an eGay sellers word? Its not like BA and BF Falcons are in short supply or are expensive so it was that one or nothing.

Plenty of options have been put on the table for you, including your own engine and ECU swap out idea. BTW Welcome. New member or old member, everyone gets the same treatment. Unless you do something dumbass that warrants a rebuke. You are not there yet. But choose one of the options presented and go from there. I'd suggest swapping out the cams and getting a ford reflash, appears to be the best option. Sell the cams, recover the cost of the exercise.
