hi
as the title says are eec 4 and eec 5 ecu's learning ucu's i have been told that eec5 ucu's are self learning (driving habbit etc) but what about ea mpfi eec4 ecu? does it have the same learning habbits as the eec5..???? also is there any difference in the learning process from auto to manual???? and what exactly does it learn???? |

Yep - both are "learning" computers...
Which really just means that they make the necessary adjustments to ensure the desired air/fuel ratios are achieved (well, that's the key). i.e. they can adapt their fuel tables etc. It's more about adaptation than learning. the idea being that as an engine gets older, EEC can do its best to control power/emissions outputs and keep them in trim. No real difference with gearboxes...

From what I understand, the main upgrades with EECV is to do with emissions plus a few additional little features. For engine tuning they are pretty much the same though.
As Martin said, both are 'learning' EEC's. Their only real learning capability is to do with fuel trimming, which is designed to counteract an aging fuel system or different conditions but they are also pretty good at learning around some mods (mainly MAF based V8 EEC's though). |
